Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 is already underway with a new theme and gimmicks for players to learn all over again. After the most recent season added a huge futuristic city and its outskirts that dominated the southeastern portion of the map, Season 3 had a high bar to reach in order to be known as a worthy successor. However, a week into the season, the new theme is already showing its relevance, both in gameplay as well as story. Players will be spending a lot of time on Season 3's Fortnite island, so it's worth learning the particulars.

Every season brings new evolutions to Fortnite's map, and Chapter 4 Season 3 continues that trend. Oftentimes, the season's theme heavily impacts how the island will change during the season's events. For example, the Splashdown season flooded a good portion of the map, with the floating Fortilla being the biggest new POI on the map. Likewise, Chapter 4 Season 1 had a heavy fantasy theme that dotted the map with villages and fortresses, as well as swords and shields in the weapon pool. With so many seasons having such a profound effect on the island, it's only natural to expect the same from Wilds.

One of the biggest focal points of the new island is Fortnite's new jungle ruins, which look guaranteed to play a significant role in the new storyline. The introduction to the Snapshot missions sends the player to recover an artifact for Aura, with more likely to come in the future. Not to mention, Slone's return also has her researching the ruins and what lies within. Gameplay-wise, the ruins are a reliable source for items, with the new Kinetic Boomerang being a frequent find there. It's probable that whatever lies within the ruins could hide a hint for the next season's theme.

A major change for the latest version of the island is the jungle that connects Fortnite's POIs for Season 3. There are a lot of vines stretching around the jungle that act similarly to Mega City's grind rails, and that combined with the several bouncy mushrooms provide a lot of mobility options in the jungle. The jungle also has several bulbs that have various effects upon taking damage. Purple flowers explode, yellow flowers emit poisonous gas, and blue flowers have a healing effect similar to Slurp. As if that wasn't enough, Season 3 also sees the return of raptors that the players can ride at high speed.

The island isn't the only part of the game to see major changes in Chapter 4 Season 3, because the weapons in Fortnite's new season also have some new additions. Specifically, the Kinetic Boomerang and Wildwasp Jar are closely related to the Wilds' jungle theme. The Kinetic Boomerang doesn't require ammo, and can deal a hefty 60 damage per shot if the player's throw hits the target. Meanwhile, the Wildwasp Jar is a throwable item that unleashes aggressive wasps to attack any player in sight, causing chaos in a firefight. They are likely to be vaulted after this season, so players should enjoy them while they can.

After Chapter 4 Season 2 offered players a new high-tech city to run around in, Season 3 is heading the opposite direction with its vast jungles. Fortnite's latest season has fewer mobility items, but the island itself has been modified to be more maneuverable than before. There are still a lot of secrets in the Wilds version of Fortnite's island, and players will have to spend a lot of time traversing the jungle to discover them all. With all the island's changes, Season 3's Wilds could be one of Fortnite's most exciting seasons yet.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
