Fortnite players are excitedly awaiting the culmination of Season 10. This season has been full of wild events, with each week dramatically changing a section of the Fortnite battle royale map. It's all building up to a crisis point, with both the meteor that crashed in Fortnite Season 3 and the "Zero Point" powered orb set to burst. Speculators believe it may be the end of Fortnite's map entirely, with a new map on the way. Whatever's coming next, however, it'll have to wait an extra week.
Today Epic Games confirmed that Fortnite Season 11 has been delayed. The delay was announced quietly as part of Fortnite's v10.40.1 Patch Notes. A single bullet point stated that "We may be almost out of time, but we're not out just yet" and confirmed that Season 10 has been extended an additional week. It's not just the delay that's especially interesting, however, but how the delay appears to be setting up for the start of Season 11.
After the patch note for the Season 11 delay, there's one for Fortnite Season 10's Overtime Mission. The Overtime Mission traditionally leads directly into the next season. Season 10's Overtime Mission is scheduled to start October 8 and end not on Thursday, the weekday when Seasons traditionally end, but on Sunday, October 13. The end of Fortnite's Season 10 and the start of Season 11 may now be a weekend-long event.
Theoretically, Epic Games could start the Season 10 ending event on Saturday, October 12, and allow players to enjoy it for over 24 hours. This would be a marked change compared to previous seasons, where the event would happen once across all servers and then never happen again. A weekend event would also make it available to many more players. Of course, it'd also open up Fortnite to server issues due to so many players logging on. That could be seen as a good problem to have, however.
Exactly what Epic Games' plans for Fortnite are will remain a mystery for at least another half of a week. Fortnite will receive one more Season 10 patch next Tuesday, barring any further delays. When the next patch arrives, Fortnite dataminers will be able to dig into the new game files and discover some of Epic's plans. Today's patch doesn't seem to have any such secrets to share. Needless to say, expectations for Fortnite's next season are climbing rapidly.
