Highlights

  • Fortnite removes vehicles, Nitro Fists, and NPC hiring for All Sweat Summer event to shake up the meta.
  • Players welcome the changes, as they align with community requests and could make competitive Fortnite more skill-based.
  • The event's changes will be effective from July 4 to July 18, including the removal of Boss Cars and the addition of quests, rewards, and cosmetics.

In a surprising turn of events, Fortnite released a new update where it not only removed all vehicles and vehicle items but also disabled the Nitro Fists mythic and the feature to hire NPCs for a limited time in Ranked Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. Both vehicles and the Nitro Fists have been amid a lot of controversy lately as they have significantly affected the Fortnite meta, and it will be interesting to see how this pans out for the competitive aspects of the game.

The fact that Fortnite's newly added Reload variant has been witnessing more players than the regular mode speaks volumes about how frustrated players have been with vehicles in general. For the record, Fortnite Reload not only makes the map and matches smaller but also completely disables vehicles. However, it seems like the developers are all set to bring changes in the same vein to certain aspects of the main game as well.

Fortnite’s Next Big Gameplay Overhaul Should Hone in on One of Its Oldest Features

Fortnite has experimented with its gameplay mechanics through the years, and a long-running feature needs to be next on the list.

In a new tweet, Fortnite announced an interesting set of changes that will be accompanying its upcoming event. To celebrate summer, Fortnite is organizing the All Sweat Summer event adding a plethora of quests, rewards, and cosmetics to the game. However, what's notable is the fact that Fortnite is also trying out a few changes to shake up the game's meta. For the duration of the event, vehicles and vehicle items will be disabled. It is crucial to note that Boss Cars, the incredibly powerful vehicles with mods in Fortnite, are also being disabled for the event. This will be effective starting July 4 and will be in effect until July 18.

Moreover, Fortnite is also disabling the Nitro Fists, which were added as part of the Chapter 5 Season 3 update. The Nitro Fists have been scrutinized time and again for the mobility as well as the damage, with players requesting a nerf for a while now. While some players liked the new dynamics it added to the meta, competitive players weren't happy about it since it is quite tricky to counter these items in certain situations.

Fortnite Fans Are Happy About All Sweat Summer Changes

Last but not least, the ability to hire NPCs in Fortnite is also being disabled, but hostile ones will still be available in the game. Fans have been quite receptive to the update for a couple of reasons. While the removal of both the Nitro Fists and vehicles is something fans have been requesting for a while now, some also highlighted the fact that a pilot test was a great idea to gauge the response of the community. Many fans noted that it could make competitive Fortnite more skill-based once again, and it shouldn't be surprising to see these changes sticking around for good.
