National Football League superstar and quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes is coming to Fortnite. The first NFL player to join the Fortnite Icon Series, Patrick Mahomes will be joining the likes of LeBron James and Harry Kane as sports icons who have made their way to a game that celebrates its celebrity and pop culture characters. Fortnite has long evolved past its original vision and embraced the design philosophy that anything and everything can happen in a match – and if the rumors of a Fortnite collaboration with Lord of the Rings are true, Patrick Mahomes might find himself facing off against Gandalf the Grey in the near future.

For the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, the Fortnite team at Epic Games lovingly designed two outfits based around Patrick's gladiator mindset, bionic arm, and his unapologetic love for ketchup. His base default outfit is a casual, ready-for-practice look with a sleek red hoodie that bears his initials in the shape of a gladiator helmet. The alternate styles that players can choose for the outfit include the Gladiator Mindset Style (featuring shades, a headband, and an enhanced arm), as well as the Gameday Gladiator Style (featuring a gladiator inspired visor). The second outfit features Patrick Mahomes in a snazzy suit with a ketchup bottle print.

Both of these outfits, in addition to four new themed accessories, will become purchasable on the Fortnite Store at 8PM ET on Wednesday, August 24th. For those eager at a chance to claim Patrick Mahomes early, Fortnite has organized a Zero Build Squads tournament dubbed the Patrick Mahomes Cup. It will take place on August 23rd, and will allow players a chance to earn the Gladiator outfit and his ketchup bottle back accessory a day before the Super Bowl MVP hits the store.

Competitors eager to obtain the Fornite Icon outfit will be able to play up to 10 matches in their respective time zone, while the exact time window for each region can be looked up from the Compete tab in-game. To participate, players will need to have 2FA enabled, as well as have an account that's at least level 50. During the matches, each player will have a tracked score, with an elimination yielding them one point, while a Victory Royale giving as much as 30 points. The winner of the event will not only obtain the outfit, but also a special Secret Sauce emoticon.

Whether this opens the possibility for more NFL superstars to join Fortnite such as Tom Brady, Lamar Jackson, or Aaron Donald is unknown at the time, but for now, Fortnite fans will be able to make a play with the Gridiron Gladiator starting August 24th, 2022.

Fortnite is available now on some Mobile devices, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
