A Fortnite dataminer found evidence that the game's "OG" map could be returning soon. Fortnite temporarily introduced the map during Season OG to massive popularity in late 2023.

Fortnite's Season OG proved to be a huge success as it reached over 44 million players in a single day. The throwback map seemed to be a hit with new fans and old fans alike, creating some disappointment when the OG map was eventually removed following the conclusion of Season OG on December 2nd. Since then, Fortnite teased the eventual return of the OG map but otherwise remained quiet on the matter. Some fans have patiently waited for additional news regarding the battle royale's legendary map, and it seems that they may have gotten an update.

Fortnite dataminer Egyptian_Leaker found that a playlist tag was added for Season OG following the game's newest update. They explained that this could signify the classic map receiving its own game mode sometime in the future. The tag in question was "Tag='Athena.Playlist.Rufus.'" Athena is the name of Fortnite's OG map, while Rufus was Epic's codename for the recent Season OG. The dataminer didn't offer any speculation as to when exactly this mode could be released, but the tag's addition is a promising sign for fans of the battle royale's original map. Fans shouldn't get too excited, though. This could mean absolutely nothing, and as always, it's best to wait for official word from Epic Games.

Following the OG map's potential return, it's possible that it will be added as a separate game mode rather than taking on the role of Fortnite's default map again. This would allow the Fortnite season that coincides with the map's return to be mostly unaffected. According to leaks and rumors, the theme of Fortnite's next season is centered around Greek mythology.

As previously mentioned, Fortnite hinted towards the OG map's return in a not-so-subtle way back in early December. The post explained that fans could expect to see the map again in 2024, but did not specify a window. An early 2024 release does seem like a quick turnaround time for a map that was recently featured, so it's possible that fans could have to wait until Spring, Summer, or even later in 2024, but this is still just speculation.

It's possible that the OG map's separate game mode could feature Fortnite's Season OG weapons, items, and vehicles. The map's massive popularity and Epic's previous hints make it clear that it will be re-introduced eventually, but some fans are hoping for that to be sooner rather than later.
