Battle royale games are all the rage nowadays, mostly thanks to popular titles like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite. Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch owners haven't been able to get in on the craze, as there are currently no battle royale games available for the console. However, that could change in the future, as Donald Mustard, worldwide creative director of Epic Games, says he is interested in bringing Fortnite to the Switch.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Mustard said that "hopefully" we will see Fortnite come to the Switch at some point. While this is far from a confirmation that Fortnite is in development for Nintendo's handheld/home console hybrid, it does make a Switch port a much more realistic possibility.

If Fortnite came to the Switch, it would potentially grow its already huge player base. Well over 10 million players have participated in the game's free-to-play battle royale mode since its launch last summer, but it's likely that there are some Nintendo faithful that have never even had the chance to play the game and would jump at the opportunity to do so.

It's easy to see how a Fortnite port could benefit both Epic Games and Nintendo. While the Switch already has an impressive library of games, one area it is lacking is with online multiplayer titles, especially compared to its competition. Since Fortnite is one of the hottest online multiplayer games on the market right now, it could really improve the Switch's stock with the hardcore gaming crowd if it were to make its way to the console.

Switch owners that aren't interested in battle royale modes may be interested in trying out the game's PvE content instead. While Fortnite's PvE has been hugely overshadowed since Epic Games introduced the battle royale mode, it still features quite a bit of content, and continues to receive support from the studio. Just recently, this mode received a special holiday event that added new playable characters, story missions, and more.

Whether or not Fortnite comes to the Switch at some point in the future remains to be seen. However, Epic has made it clear that it would like to bring its increasingly popular shooter to Nintendo's console eventually, so perhaps it's just a matter of time.

Fortnite is available now in early access on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
