  • A leaked sniper rifle in Fortnite may counter the current meta with a 3x damage boost against vehicles.
  • Vehicular upgrades in Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 make vehicles a key strategy, but the new sniper could change that.
  • Leaks continue to tease potential new content coming to Fortnite, such as a collaboration with Lethal Company.

Fortnite dataminers have shared in-game footage of a new, unreleased sniper rifle that apparently deals 3x damage to vehicles. Although the weapon's release date is unconfirmed, it could be a helpful counter to Fortnite's latest meta which has proved to be controversial.

Fortnite's Chapter 5 Season 3 era began on May 24, with the biggest change being the game's new emphasis on vehicles. In addition to receiving big health upgrades, cars were also given a rechargeable boost mechanic and various mods like the Grenade Launcher Turret and Bulletproof Tires. These upgrades, along with others, have made using vehicles an almost mandatory strategy, but it seems at least one counter may be added to Fortnite later this season.

Fortnite Leaker Reveals More Details About Potential Deadpool & Wolverine Collab

A notable Fortnite leaker believes that a Deadpool & Wolverine collaboration could be coming soon, one that could include skins from the movie.

Dataminers Hypex and AllyJax shared a clip of the unreleased sniper that takes on a heavy-duty, old-fashioned appearance. The bolt-action rifle can only fire one bullet before requiring a reload, which takes just under three seconds. The sniper can also be modified with attachments, as is shown about halfway through the video. The slow firing speed seems to suggest that it does serious damage to opponents, but its biggest strength is its huge bonus to vehicle damage, assuming the datamined information is accurate. If its damage is similar to previous weapons like the Heavy and Reaper Sniper Rifles, it would do somewhere around 110-130 damage per shot to enemies at lower rarities, which would put a 3x vehicle-damage bonus at 330-390 damage per shot.

Dealing 330 damage would take five shots to destroy a small car following the recent health boosts, and it would take even more to destroy Fortnite's War Bus which comes with 2,500 HP. However, these numbers for the new sniper are only speculation, and the weapon could come with much larger damage values once it's released, especially seeing that it only fires one shot every 2.7 seconds or so.

How To Counter Fortnite Vehicles In Season 3

In the meantime, there are already some options for those looking to counter vehicles. Fortnite's new Nitro Fists are one of these solutions, as players can use its uppercut ability to send cars flying and force any passengers out of them. However, there isn't a true counter yet for scenarios with multiple enemy cars.

Seeing that Season 3 places such an emphasis on vehicles, Epic might not intend to introduce a major vehicle counter before the season ends, with the leaked sniper rifle possibly being the closest thing that fans can expect. As for other content coming later this season, Fortnite's crossover with Lethal Company was recently leaked, which includes at least one set of cosmetic items.
