Yesterday, Fortnite fans were able to attend a live in-game concert featuring the musician Marshmello, with the free-to-play Battle Royale title offering players the chance to groove to some electronic tunes while using their favorite avatars. As it so happens, the event was quite the success, as the concert managed to draw in a huge number of fans in-game, which seems to have helped set a new concurrent player record.

According to the games journalist and The Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley, there were more than 10 million concurrent players attending and participating in the Fortnite concert with Marshmello, with millions of others streaming it online. This amount of fans joining in the event surpasses that last known peak concurrent player record of roughly 8.3 million, which was revealed after Epic Games confirmed the title had reached 200 million registered players.

For those unaware, promotion for the in-game concert unofficially began just a few days ago when a leaked datamine of Fortnite's Update 7.30 files pointed to several assets that would be used and introduced during the event, including an actual skin in the likeness of Marshmello. However, it's safe to say that not many could have foreseen exactly how Epic Games would utilize all of the wares to pull the event off, much less predict how popular it was going to be.

All things considered, with Fortnite's Marshmello concert having been a such a resounding success as far as the new concurrent player record is concerned, it will be interesting to see if Epic Games decides to attempt similar events like this down the line. After all, it's a safe to say there are plenty of electronic artists out there who would enjoy benefiting from the exposure the game could bring. Until then, though, fans of the Battle Royale title will most likely begin to turn their attention toward the immediate future, and continue to speculate as to what kind of content Season 8 will have.
