Some classic Star Wars character skins are coming back to Fortnite as part of its new LEGO crossover, allowing players to roam the Island as minifigure versions of Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker. On December 7, Epic launched an alternate LEGO-themed gameplay mode for Fortnite, which replaces the game’s usual character models with cute LEGO figures and reimagines the massively popular online battle royale title as a survival crafting sandbox akin to Minecraft. So far, LEGO Fortnite has been a major success, with player counts surpassing Fortnite’s regular Battle Royal mode regularly since it first launched.

In addition to being able to build practically anything the player can think of using virtual LEGO building blocks, the appeal of LEGO Fortnite lies in how it captures the fun visual style of LEGO - including its trademark Minifigures. So far, LEGO Fortnite includes over 1,200 playable character skins, including various guest Fortnite characters that may or may not have been represented in a real-life building set as of this writing. Some of these Fortnite guest characters even have alternate designs that differ from their physical counterparts, such as Spider-Man’s exclusive “Spider-Man Zero” costume from Fortnite Chapter 3: Season 3.

Fortnite and Star Wars have collaborated many times over the past few years, dating back to the pre-release hype period for 2019’s Star Wars: Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker - which saw Emperor Palatine deliver an exclusive message to players amid a wave of character skins from the movie. The classic Star Wars trinity of Luke, Han, and Leia was added to the mix alongside a host of other Star Wars items in a special Fortnite promotional event late last year. All three of these skins have returned to the shop a few times since, with their most recent appearance being in September.

The combination of LEGO, Star Wars, and video games has been a winning formula stretching all the way back to the release of the original LEGO Star Wars game back in 2005, and now LEGO Fortnite is continuing this with its newly launched wave of classic Luke, Han, and Leia skins from A New Hope. LEGO Fortnite players have already recreated iconic Star Wars vehicles in-game, so these new playable minifigures will feel right at home in Epic’s ever-expanding online sandbox.
