Fortnite has managed to cultivate a large audience in the crowded battle royale genre. Despite the popularity of Fortnite, the game has been receiving a fair amount of criticism in recent months and the return of a controversial weapon may split the fan base. With that said, if the returning weapon is a success it may win over players who have a nostalgic interest in the game.

The battle royale genre follows a strict formula of pitting teams against each other in an increasingly small battlefield, yet Fortnite managed to separate itself from the pack with its unique building mechanics, challenges, and personalization. With frequent new content and crossovers, Fortnite has attracted a huge fan base but players were united in their dislike of the returning weapon.

According to Fortnite's trello, grenades are set to make a return after being removed on March 31st. At the moment it is unclear what issues with the grenade have been rectified but many will hope that the weapon is weaker and multiple grenades can not be thrown at the same time, which was the case before its disappearance. There is not a confirmed date for the return of the weapon, but with the constant stream of updates that Fortnite provides it is bound to appear soon. There is plenty of content coming to Fortnite that is sure to please players, but with that said, the return of the grenade may not please all players who have negative thoughts about its use.

Despite some players being unsatisfied with the current state of Fortnite, there are still large numbers of gamers enjoying the game and the amount of content the free-to-play title is providing. Whether or not the title can retain its status as one of the leading battle royale games remains to be seen, but it should be noted that the game already has an impressive legacy and the fact that fans are still passionate about the game is testament to that. With that said, the developer of Fortnite, Epic Games, will likely want updates to excite fans and prompt their return to the game.

Fortnite seems to have a few tricks left up its sleeve and fans will at least be intrigued by what the game offers. If the grenades have been adjusted to be a useful but fair weapon, many players may need to reassess their opinion of the weapon and others may begin to come back around to Fortnite.

Fortnite is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
