Fortnite fans who have loved the crossover with Marvel are getting some news that may excite them: leaks revealed that there is another, Ghostbusters-themed crossover. Fortnite dataminers initially found Ghostbusters achievements and cosmetics in the files after the update from two days ago, 14.40, and now this event is live in Fortnite.
Many players are currently enjoying Fortnite's Halloween-themed event, Fortnitemares 2020, which will last from October 21 to November 3. However, this is not all the ghostly-themed content that Epic has to offer Fortnite players, and Ghostbusters may be the perfect ghostly (but not scary) flavor that this Halloween needs.
Twitter user FireMonkey posted that some Ghostbusters bundles have been added in the files in v14.40: Ghostbusters Gear, Ghostbusters Crew, Ghostbusters Patrol, and the bone-themed Skull Squad Pack. Also, dataminer HypeX reportedly found a new achievement in the files entitled "I Collect Spores, Molds, and Fungus," which is a quote from Ghostbusters (1984), coming from a parapsychologist describing his unusual interests. According to the leaker, the achievement triggers while wearing a Ghostbusters outfit and collecting a Foraged item.
Players are now able to enter Fortnite and try their hand at collecting these items and getting this achievement that leakers revealed. Also, some players noticed a car covered by a tarp in Fortnite's Camp Cod that wasn't there before, and fans are identifying it as the Ecto-1 from the Ghostbusters franchise. While this was previously thought of as a coincidence or Easter egg by some players, it's now clear that this was meant to be a hint that the wacky ghost-hunting franchise is stepping into Fortnite.
Fortnitemares 2020 is already giving fans a lot of spooky content, like the new point of interest known as the Ruins that is rumored to be where Midas will return to Fortnite. Witch brooms, Shadow forms, and Halloween candy are more of the spectral features players are currently experiencing at this time of year, so the Ghostbusters crossover comes right when players are already in a ghostly mood.
Epic says the Fortnite and Marvel crossover will continue past Season 4, meaning that fans now have multiple movie series putting content into Fortnite concurrently. This is good news for players who like to see pop culture mixing in with the battle royale game they enjoy, especially since Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers, so this isn't news to many players. Even if players aren't fans of the Ghostbusters series, hopefully the items and achievement(s) provide some entertainment.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
