The battle between Twitch streamers and the forever looming DMCA rages on in a new development that will impact a ton of streamers today interested in the Fortnite event. Fortnite is about to have its next big in-game event to close out its Marvel-themed season and it might be subjected to copyright strikes if streamers broadcast it on Twitch.

A new tweet from the official Fortnite Status account explains that Fortnite can not protect streamers who choose to broadcast the event later today and that VODs (videos on demand) or clips from streams may get flagged by Twitch's copyright detection systems. To avoid this issue, the Fortnite Status account mentions that streamers are recommended to mute their VODs or to turn off VODs and clips to protect themselves against any copyright claims or strikes.

Recently, Twitch has been under a lot of fire from streamers for how it has handled DMCA takedowns. Twitch released a statement to streamers after more and more DMCA claims swept through the platform, however, Twitch CEO Emmett Shear had to issue an apology for the Twitch DMCA controversies and mentioned the statement released didn't provide help to Twitch streamers facing takedown notices.

Twitch has been under a lot of scrutiny this year for all kinds of different topics. Throughout 2020, several high-profile streams have been banned from the platform either temporarily or permanently including some instances without a discernible reason as, supposedly, is the case with Dr Disrepect's Twitch ban. Although 2020 hasn't only been about high profile bans, Twitch has also been under fire for its tone-deaf attempt at supporting Black Lives Matter earlier this year and for its inappropriate Hispanic Heritage emotes that truly missed the mark.

Fortnite's newest event is set to feature the big-time Marvel baddie, Galactus. There is some speculation that Galactus will bring about another "black hole" at the conclusion of this event much like players saw in the transition from Chapter 1 of Fortnite to Chapter 2. The hope now is that Galactus will only impact the in-game world of Fortnite and not cause any of Twitch's beloved streamers to receive bans over any copyrighted material.

The Galactus event is set to end the long-standing Fourth Season in Fortnite Chapter 2, but leakers on Twitter may have found what Fortnite is preparing for Season 5. A recent leak has revealed that The Mandalorian may be on his way to Fortnite next season and he is bringing Baby Yoda with him.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
