Players of Epic Games’ hit Battle Royale game Fortnite looking for a dose of gaming nostalgia are sure to appreciate a new recreation of the Nacht Der Untoten map from Call of Duty Zombies made inside the free-to-play title's Creative mode. Players of the online title recently witnessed the game’s world undergo drastic changes yet again following the the end of Fortnite Chapter 3, though no area on the map looks like Nacht.

Originally released by Epic Games in 2017, Fortnite has become one of the most popular online shooters in recent memory. While the focus of the game was originally centered on the paid PvE Fortnite: Save the World mode, the massive success of the game’s free-to-play Battle Royale mode led Epic Games to focus its attention on that area, providing a continuous stream of new free content alongside paid cosmetic items. Launched in late 2018, Fortnite Creative mode lets players use in-game tools to create their own levels and gameplay modes.

In a post on r/CODZombies, Reddit user ExpertBuilderV1 showed off screenshots of their impressive work on a recreation of Call of Duty Zombies’ Nacht Der Untoten map made entirely in Fortnite Creative. Originally appearing as a map in 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War, the title which introduced the popular zombie-infested game mode to the franchise, the Nacht Der Unoten map has since made multiple appearances in subsequent titles. The screenshots of ExpertBulderV1’s remake of the classic map show a remarkable attention to detail, with no signs that it was made in a game more commonly associated with bright, cartoonish visuals.

Several redditors shared their excitement at the screenshots of the impressive map in the comments, with many responses asking for the map code when it was available for others to try. Commenting on the first-person perspective shown off in the screenshots, some users asked if the map would be playable in first-person mode, leading ExperttBuilderV1 to clarify that they had zoomed the camera in for the screenshots and that the map would still be played in third-person. Though there was no mention of adding them at this time, this dark, gloomy, and deeply atmospheric map looks like it could be a perfect showcase for some of the new Unreal Engine 5.1 features in Fortnite Chapter 4.

This impressive homage to the Nacht Der Untoten map is a stunning example of the unique worlds and modes that players have brought to life using Fortnite Creative. As the game continues to evolve and add new features, fans seem set to keep pushing the boundaries of what they can build in Fortnite. And while players wait for confirmation of a zombies mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, hopping into Fortnite may be their next best option.

Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
