A Fortnite player shared an image to compare the size of the map from Chapter 4 to the one from Chapter 3. While these two Fortnite maps are vastly different, they share some common features so that battle royale fans can fight across various biomes and take control of specific landmarks.

Fortnite Chapter 4 began on December 4, following a game-changing event called Fracture that ended with the servers going down for 12 hours. During this hour-long live event, players witnessed the end of Fortnite Chapter 3 and the creation of the new map coming with Chapter 4. As players discovered the new environment for their battles, one of them decided to compare the new map to the old one.

Reddit user suboppheh superimposed the map from Fortnite Chapter 4 on the one from Chapter 3 to compare their size. While the two maps share a similar shape and both feature various biomes, the new environment for Fortnite Chapter 4 is smaller than the playable area from Chapter 3. The new map includes several islands with various environments, from plains and forests to desolated frozen mountaintops, offering more vertical elements than in previous Fortnite Chapters.

Despite the map from Chapter 4 being smaller than its predecessor, several Reddit users noted that it felt bigger than the one from Chapter 3. This impression comes from the overall layout of the main island, with more open areas between two points of interest, or the hot spots popular among Fortnite players. The Chapter 4 map features more terrain variety than the one from Chapter 3, with valleys and gullies to make it seem larger than it is. Some Fortnite fans suggested the map could get bigger over time, with new seasons bringing additional content to the game. Upcoming seasons could also unlock new points of interest and landing zones so that players wouldn’t fight over the same areas over and over again.

On top of this new map, Fortnite Chapter 4 introduced new movement techniques, vehicles, and cosmetics. Players can use Trail Thrashers dirt bikes to move around the map, form a snowball and ride it down a hill, or throw themselves in the air using a massive shockwave hammer. Chapter 4 also introduced Reality Augments, new gameplay perks that offer advantages to players throughout the match. At regular intervals, Fortnite players can pick one of two random Reality Augments to boost their abilities, with some of those perks increasing the magazine size of weapons, offering a chance not to consume ammo while firing, or granting an automatic health restore.

One of the most popular features in Fortnite is the regular addition of new cosmetics and skins inspired by other popular video games and pop culture elements. Fortnite Chapter 4 brought Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher, The Incredible Hulk, and Doomslayer to the game, and the Battle Pass added skins for characters like Massai, Selene, Dusty, Nezumi, Helsie, and The Ageless.

Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
