Over the last five years, Fortnite has evolved quite a bit. Every few months, a new Season releases, bringing with it some new characters, story events, weapons, vehicles, and mechanics. After a good few Seasons, Fortnite begins a brand new Chapter, shedding its skin and providing players with a new map. Despite being just half the length of its predecessors, Fortnite Chapter 3 has given fans some of the most memorable moments in the game's history, and its finale event, "Fracture," is certainly one of those.

On December 3, Fortnite Chapter 3 came to an end during an event titled "Fracture." During the course of Fortnite Chapter 3's final Season, a mysterious being known as The Herald had begun to invade the island using a Chrome substance. As the Season went on, more and more of the map was being consumed by the Chrome. By the time of the finale event, the Chrome had consumed everything, and the Loopers had to make their final stand.

What Happened In Fortnite Chapter 3's Finale Event

Fortnite Chapter 3's Fracture finale event began with the Loopers setting up a defensive position in the Reality Tree for one final showdown with The Herald. Using all of the ammunition they could find, the Loopers seemingly managed to destroy the pink-haired villain, before she used her Chrome powers to rise again and transform into a gigantic version of herself. With no way to stop her, the Loopers were consumed by The Herald's Chrome, along with the rest of the island, which proceeded to explode, scattering itself across reality.

In the aftermath of the explosion, the Loopers were sent hurtling into the edges of reality, where Brie Larson's Paradigm was waiting to help. Reattaching parts of the island, Paradigm tasked the player with collecting Zero Point Fragments from their surrounding environment in an attempt to bring the island back together. These Fragments, represented by glowing orbs, could be found hiding in the environment, and players could also obtain them by completing side activities like winning time trials, finishing bounties, or solving environmental puzzles.

The more Fragments the players found, the more points of interest got joined together, giving players more locations to explore for even more Fragments. Eventually, after enough Zero Point Fragments were found, players were launched into the air, where they were suspended for a few seconds. While suspended, Paradigm told players that she was about to attempt to recreate the island, using the Fragments to grab locations out of different realities, and pull them all together. A cutscene then played, showing Paradigm floating in space and beginning to pull pieces of the island back together.

As she does this, a few iconic characters could be spotted floating around her in space. Doom's protagonist, the Doom Slayer, could be seen fighting off a Cacodemon with his Crucible Blade. The Witcher's Geralt of Rivia could also be seen, trying to swim through space to get back to his horse, who's presumably one of the versions of Roach. As tentacles of light continued to pull in the surrounding clumps of land, Marvel's Hulk passed by the camera, riding a comically undersized dirt bike. Popular YouTuber Mr. Beast was then grabbed by one of the reality tentacles, dragging him towards a new landmass. Paradigm then floated towards this new collection of islands, and the camera pans out to reveal the brand new Fortnite Chapter 4 map, with a space-suitable Battle Bus already making its way overhead.

Fortnite is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
