Fortnite Chapter 2 is officially a go. After two whole days in a state of unplayability, the game has relaunched with a whole new map and more to do than ever before. A lot has changed over the course of a single weekend, but rest assured, Fortnite’s battle royale is still the same as it’s always been, and that applies to its Battle Pass.
With a new Chapter underway, the seasonal cycle has reset all the way back to Season 1, and as with all seasons, there’s a new Battle Pass available. Nothing much about how this works has really changed in the transition to Chapter 2. With this, players will be able to unlock a reward path that will grant them various cosmetic items, like new character skins, weapon skins, emotes, pickaxes, gliders, etc. while they run around, familiarize themselves with the new map, and try not to get too distracted by Fortnite’s new fishing options.
Specifically, this Battle Pass, like the ones before it, comes with a grand total of 100 tiers for players to rise through, with each tier granting at least one reward upon. Of course, each tier can be reached by earning XP through matches and completing various challenges while playing, but thanks to Fortnite Chapter 2’s overhaul of its XP system, players can also earn Battle Pass progress by earning medals for things like getting a certain number of eliminations or looting a certain number of items.
There are technically two Battle Passes available right now. The first is a free option, which includes some of the tiers and early rewards for players to get an easy start. If they want the high-end rewards, though, they’re going to have to pay up for the Battle Pass proper, though the progress they earn in the free pass will carry over to the paid version.
As for price, it will cost 950 V-Bucks, or $9.50 in real world bucks, to unlock the Battle Pass, and for those who have some spare change, they can unlock the first 25 tiers for 2,800 V-Bucks/$28. That’s quite a lot of money, but diligent players can make up for it, since the Pass rewards 1,500 V-Bucks for completing all of its challenges. That might completely cover the premium costs, but it will definitely cover the cost of unlocking the Battle Pass for the next season in a couple of months’ time.
