Fortnite has crossed over with some of the biggest franchises ever, ranging from Marvel superheroes to various video game series to Star Wars. Considering the success Fortnite has enjoyed through these huge crossover events, it comes as little surprise that the popular battle royale is apparently poised to continue the trend. According to the latest leak, Fortnite may soon feature some of the most recognizable characters in anime history.

Fortnite dataminer Twea has said that "a trusted source" has indicated that Epic Games is working with Shueisha on anime crossovers. This would be significant as Shueisha owns Shonen Jump magazine, which publishes manga based on Bleach, Demon Slayer, Dragon Ball, My Hero Academia, Naruto, One Piece, and many more. Potentially, this apparent deal between Epic Games and Shueisha could lead to any of these properties crossing over with Fortnite, though nothing has actually been confirmed at the time of this writing and so fans should keep their expectations in check.

Right off the bat, it's easy to see how Fortnite anime crossovers would be appealing. The various anime franchises that Shonen Jump has access to could inspire plenty of new Points of Interest fort the Fortnite battle royale map, and there's enough material there to carry an entire season of content, really. There could be skins based on Deku, Goku, Luffy, Naruto, and the various supporting characters from their respective franchises. It would be a goldmine of content for Fortnite, and would potentially draw in fans of those series that haven't paid attention to Epic's BR.

If anime characters make their way to Fortnite, it will be interesting to see what they look like. It's possible that they will be tweaked to match Fortnite's base art style, but it's also possible that they will retain their cartoony, animated look. The Fortnite Rick Sanchez skin is an example of this, though there have been some concerns that skins like that are too easy to spot and may therefore put players that use them at a slight disadvantage.

As for when the Fortnite anime skins and crossovers could make their way to the game, that remains to be seen. Fortnite is still in Season 7 of Chapter 2, and it's not expected to transition to Season 8 for a couple of months yet. It's possible that the anime crossovers could be the central focus of Season 8, but it's also possible that Fortnite fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see anything substantial from this leak.

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
