Frey needs to embark on different journeys during her stay in Athia and has to face various enemies like Mutant, Breakzombies, and Errant Soldiers in Forspoken. That is what makes crafting and upgrading an essential skill to learn, as it helps raise the girl’s stats. Upgrading stats can result in so many benefits like surviving the wildlife of foreign land, lasting longer in battles, and increasing the pouches' capacity. Frey has two pouches, the Materials Pouch to carry crafting items, and the Medicine Pouch to carry the Healing Draught.
Meanwhile, upgrading the Cloak and Necklace stats can increase Frey's HP, Power, Defense, or even her resistance in Forspoken.
How To Unlock Crafting And Upgrading In Forspoken
To unlock crafting and upgrading, Frey must meet and help Olevia in Cipal city during chapter three of Frey’s journey in Forspoken. In an attempt to get out of the city grounds, Frey will encounter Olevia, who offers a helping hand. The little girl asks for an apple in exchange for her services as she is hungry.
Once Frey gives Olevia what she wants, she follows her to the crafting bench at Cipal City, near Olevia’s 'Finders Keepers' area. Next, the little girl offers the protagonist three Balm Flax and then proceeds to teach her the basics of crafting and upgrading one’s items and equipment.
Using the crafting bench for the first time, Frey uses the Balm Flax Olevia has given to craft a Healing Draught. As a result of completing this task, each Pilgrim’s Refuge now has a crafting bench for players to use, which serves as both a crafting station and a waypoint to heal after battles in Forspoken.
How To Craft
To craft, players need to collect raw items from Athia’s fields and transform them into valuable items like:
- Healing Draught: Crafting the elixir requires two Balm Flax.
- Increase medicine pouch capacity: To craft it, collect Nuggets.
- Increase Materials pouch capacity: To craft it, collect Feathers.
To gather crafting materials, players need to be thorough while exploring the lands of Athia. Also, next to Olevia’s dump, exist various items that respawn every once in a while. It should be noted that crafting can only be done on a crafting bench, which can be done inside different refuges, resting at a campfire, and inside the city walls in Forspoken.
How To Upgrade
To upgrade, Frey needs to interact with the crafting bench and choose the upgrade section. The latter is used to enhance the stats of Frey’s Necklaces and Cloaks in Forspoken. The material needed to upgrade each stat differs, so players should pick the stats they wish to add to their equipment to figure out which material they need.
Initially, crafting items or upgrading equipment requires a few resources, but it increases with each upgrade. Only the Healing Draught can be crafted with the same amount of resources, which is two Balm Flax.
