The PlayStation 5 has had an incredible 2022 already, with PlayStation exclusives like Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 earning rave reviews from critics. One of the next big PS5 console exclusive games on the horizon is Forspoken from Square Enix, an action-RPG that looks like it has a ton of potential. Square Enix fans were counting on playing Forspoken in May, but a new rumor making the rounds online suggests that the game could get delayed.

This rumor comes from AccountNGT on Twitter, who has accurately leaked industry news in the past. According to AccountNGT, a source has told them that the Forspoken release date may get pushed back. Forspoken is currently scheduled to launch on May 24 for PC and PS5, though it's unclear how far back the game may get delayed if AccountNGT's information is accurate.

AccountNGT speculates that if Forspoken's release date is delayed as their source claims, it's possible that it could be announced at the rumored PlayStation event. While Sony has not made any official announcements, various people have claimed that a PlayStation event is going to take place this month, likely in the form of a State of Play presentation. If so, it's possible that a new release date for Forspoken could very well be announced at the event. On the other hand, it's also possible such an event could help solidify Forspoken's May 24 release date and cast away any worry that it could be getting delayed.

There haven't been any major updates on Forspoken since The Game Awards, where Square Enix released an impressive new trailer for the game. The latest Forspoken trailer showed off the game's gorgeous visuals and impressive-looking combat, while also providing fans with more details about its story. Those looking forward to the game have a pretty good idea of what to expect from it because of this and other Forspoken trailers, but there are still some unanswered questions.

Last month, Forspoken was officially rated by the ESRB. Usually this happens when a game's release is imminent, and so that may go against the rumors of it possibly getting delayed. Regardless, the Forspoken ESRB rating suggested that the game will have microtransactions, but those have yet to be detailed by Square Enix. Since Forspoken is a single-player experience, it's hard to see how microtransactions would really fit, but if they are indeed in the game, more information will likely come to light prior to launch.

Forspoken is scheduled to launch for PC and PS5 on May 24.
