Debuting a new trailer earlier this month, Square Enix's upcoming PlayStation 5 console exclusive Project Athia was revealed with a fresh title, now going by Forspoken. Along with the rebranding, the game pulled the curtain back and unveiled a small snippet of the action-adventure RPG, revealing its protagonist would be played by Ella Balinska and it would feature intense, magic-focused combat.

Today, a new version of the trailer landed on PlayStation's official YouTube account, featuring a longer gameplay montage that focuses on combat and open-world traversal. The "extended cut" still only clocks in at just over 2 minutes long, but it's enough time to get a slightly better impression of how Forspoken will play.

The promo essential focuses on lengthier versions of all the clips shown in the previous trailer, the most prominent of which being Frey's encounter with a wild bear. It's clear that the protagonist will be incredibly agile, as the clip shows Forspoken's heroine dashing out of harm's way, leaping over the large beast, and using her magical abilities to attack it. That speed will seemingly translate into traversal too, with several sequences depicting Frey scaling rocks with ease and leaping long distances through the game's open-world environments.

The final extended moment sees Frey go up against three large projectile throwing creatures, highlighting that players will have access to a magical shield that can block heavy attacks. It's looking to be an action-packed game that focuses on fluid movement, stunning visuals, and destructive magical combat, with an array of intimidating monsters to take down. Although little is currently known about the game outside of its title and small gameplay teases, it has been confirmed that it's targeting a 2022 release and will debut on both PC and PlayStation 5.

It will be joining a stacked lineup of console exclusives coming to the PlayStation 5, with the list also including Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, and Oddworld: Soulstorm. Prior to the recent trailer, the game was something of a mystery, being announced under the codename Project Athia last year. Its reveal quickly found prominence online due to its unique setting filled with monsters, dragons, and magic, promising an open-world adventure that would truly show-off the power of the PlayStation 5. It's yet another exciting release to look forward to next year, where it will join blockbuster titles like Gotham Knights, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, The Callisto Protocol, Hogwarts Legacy, and Splatoon 3.

Forspoken is slated to release on PC and PlayStation 5 in 2022.
