Though it boasts a massive open world, the main story in Forspoken is a fairly linear one, at least when compared to some of its peers. Players are given very little choice as to how events play out, with Frey seemingly destined to save Athia from the break no matter what. However, that all changes right before the game's climax, with players suddenly given a pretty big decision to make.

After learning the truth about Cuff and the Tantas, Frey will finally be offered a chance to return home. Unfortunately, doing so means leaving Athia to fend for itself in the face of the oncoming destruction, so it's not a decision to be taken lightly. For those wondering whether it's better to go home to New York or go and finish Susurrus once and for all, there are a few things to consider.

What Happens if Players Choose to Go Home to New York?

In the event that players decide to return to New York, they're treated to a 20-second cutscene in which Frey and Homer can be seen walking through the streets of Hell's Kitchen. Fray appears a little worse for wear and lets out an exasperated sigh as she asks Homer where the pair should go next. The screen then fades to black and the credits roll, after which, players will be taken back to the main menu.

Interestingly, there is no bonus Trophy/Achievement for viewing this ending, nor do players get the Trophy/Achievement that would usually be unlocked for completing Chapter 11. Given that the choice betrays all of Frey's character growth and leaves her right back where she started in Chapter 1 of Forspoken, it seems fair to say that this is the bad ending. Thankfully, the game autosaves at the point where players are asked to make their choice, meaning that it's both quick and easy to watch this short cutscene and then reload the game.

What Happens if Players Choose to Go and Finish Susurrus Once and For All?

If players choose to go and fight Susurrus, Frey and Cinta will head through the Torana together and the chapter will come to an end. In Chapter 12 of Forspoken, players will come face-to-face with Susurrus and will need to bring him down using the powers of the five Tantas. It's a fairly difficult fight, but one that players should be able to win if they've been unlocking new spells throughout their journey through Athia.

Which is the Best Choice?

Given that players are unable to properly complete the game if they choose to go home to New York, most will see that as the wrong choice. What's more, the people of Athia presumably all die without Frey being there to protect them, so there's that too. With these things in mind, players should probably choose to go and fight Susurrus, though only when they're ready to do so. Heading through the Torana will lock them out of all of the game's side activities until after they've completed the main story.

Forspoken is available now on PS5 and PC.
