As Dusk Falls is the first major release coming from Interior/Night, a game development company kickstarted by Caroline Marchal, the former lead designer at Quantic Dream. The upcoming narrative adventure game has now been rated by ESRB, earning an official "M for Mature" rating.

Interior/Night's debut adventure is going to be a markedly different experience than the titles that Marchal had previously worked on. Gameplay-wise, it should be reasonably similar to older Quantic Dream releases, but the main difference lies in its visual presentation. Specifically, As Dusk Falls uses filmed real-world scenes and actors that were digitally painted over, frame-by-frame.

As Dusk Falls was originally announced a few years back as an unconventional narrative adventure that would launch exclusively on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series platforms. The new ESRB listing confirms as much, with the game having been rated only for these platforms. This is particularly interesting since all the previous Quantic Dream games had been PlayStation exclusives, with subsequent PC releases coming much later on.

According to ESRB, As Dusk Falls is going to feature blood, strong language, suggestive themes, the use of drugs and alcohol, and, predictably, violence. Namely, the game is going to tackle the story of one family being held at gunpoint by another, and the drama that comes from the resulting violence. Said events are set in Arizona during the 1990s, and players should expect their choices to matter in this game.

As Dusk Falls seems to take inspiration from What Remains of Edith Finch and similar games, albeit with a different focus on narrative progression. Though the game will focus primarily on various adventure gaming storytelling devices, ESRB listing also mentions various action sequences. Still, these are unlikely to be a major focus, but a stepping stone to further story progression instead.

Though As Dusk Falls doesn't currently have an official release date, the fact that it's been rated by ESRB may suggest that it could be coming out in the near future. It's curious to note that while Interior/Night seems to specialize in the production of narrative adventure games, Caroline Marchal's original studio, Quantic Dream, may be going in a different direction. According to leaks, Quantic's Star Wars Eclipse is an open-world game.

As Dusk Falls is going to launch on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series platforms, but there's no official release date at this time.
