Prince of Persia is back, but maybe not how fans of the franchise would like. Ubisoft revealed on Thursday that For Honor will be featuring a special crossover event with Prince of  Persia, titled Blades of Persia. The Blades of Persia event is a limited-time crossover that will roll out in two different chapters between now and April 2. The heart of the Blades of Persia crossover event is a brand new game mode for For Honor.

The new For Honor game mode is named Ruler of Time. According to Ubisoft's announcement, Ruler of Time will transform the Harbor map and fill it with creatures for a unique type of Dominion. Intermittently throughout the match, the Prince himself will step out of a tornado of sand and attack players on both teams. Managing the Prince of Persia will be a key part of winning in Ruler of Time.

The second chapter of the Blades of Persia event will change the Ruler of Time mode. The already-changed Harbor map will turn into a night-time version of itself, to start. After that, the Prince will transform into the Dark Prince version of himself. This will apparently have dramatic consequences in terms of gameplay, but the dev team is keeping quiet until closer to the chapter's launch. Blades of Persia Chapter 2 launches March 19.

Alongside the new game mode, a new progression system is being added for the event's duration, too. It's effectively a new For Honor battle pass that will run alongside the standard one. This battle pass is event-exclusive, however, and free for all players. The Blades of Persia battle pass rewards players with unique cosmetics themed after Prince of Persia.

Chapter 1 of the For Honor event Blades of Persia event begins on March 12 and should be live now. Chapter 2 starts on March 19. The entire Blades of Persia event will end on April 2.

The Prince of Persia crossover was confirmed as part of a huge For Honor patch that was released today. The patch includes significant changes to all of For Honor's fighters, both broad and specific, and an array of bug fixes, too. Competitive For Honor players are still skeptical about the changes, but agree that the new event should bring in much needed new players. For a game that's now several years old, For Honor continues to trudge on.

For Honor is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
