This year has proven challenging for several studios, but Ubisoft's For Honor has seemingly made the best of things. Despite a turbulent fourth year introducing a divisive Core Combat Update and the Warmonger character, For Honor has delivered on its promise of a year full of content and support.

The latest addition to the game's now-29-hero collection of stylized medieval warriors comes from For Honor's developing lore: Gryphon, a returning character from the game's campaign. Formerly known as Holden Cross, the bardiche-wielding hero is introduced as a thematic rival to the last addition to For Honor's roster, the Warmonger. Scheduled to release December 10, Gryphon comes at the conclusion to a year-long series of episodic themes and seasonal events, each coinciding with the game's battle pass.

While the details behind Gryphon's move set are currently unknown, the trailer provided suggests he will handle similarly to other heavy-class fighters. His use of a headbutt echoes year three and four's trend of releasing heroes with guard crumbling and damage assuring bashes, while the presence of a hand crossbow in the trailer could hint at one of his feats or possibly a new mechanic.

With the coming of the new season means an all new battle pass, as well as the option to purchase access to the new hero with real money, should the developers be following their previous release model. Fans of the evolving story as told through the limited-time events are certain to enjoy what could be its conclusion, coinciding with the announcement of cross-system data transfers coming to next-gen consoles.

For Honor is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One with versions for the PS5 and Xbox Series X coming early December.
