For a series about haunted animatronics in a pizzeria, Five Nights at Freddy’s is surprisingly convoluted. Spanning multiple games and books, the series jumps through different decades in sequels and prequels, leaving fans working together to try and figure out the timeline of events. When Five Nights at Freddy’s jumped to live-action for their first-ever movie, fans may have enjoyed what they saw featuring the characters they know, but there were some things left unanswered.

It’s not uncommon for movies such as Five Nights at Freddy’s to leave unanswered questions. Whether it’s an ambitious plot that leaves things unsaid and forgotten, or the desire to keep questions at the forefront to build excitement and curiosity for a Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel. Either way, there are plenty of questions in Five Nights at Freddy’s that need answering.

This article contains spoilers for Five Nights at Freddy's.

7 How Many Kids Did William Afton Kill?

Spring Trap from the Five Nights at Freddy's movie
  • Drawings and 8-bit animations imply that William Afton has more victims than initially speculated

Audiences only know of six confirmed kills from William Afton, but it is expected that he has killed far more children than initially realized. Many drawings showcase the Yellow Rabbit with children, as well as many children in the 8-Bit sections of the opening and end credits that potentially spill some truth as to the unknown number of child murders that William is responsible for.

Since William Afton proudly boasts that he always comes back, perhaps audiences will discover more of his murders and more of his animatronics in a sequel to Five Nights at Freddy’s. William Afton certainly knew what he was doing, so it’s untold just how many deaths he has caused.

6 What Will Happen To The Pizzeria?

  • The pizzeria falls apart at the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s

With William Afton locked away to rot in the backrooms of the Freddy Fazbear Pizza Place, the pizzeria seems to be falling apart from within, and the animatronics are none too fussed about their home falling into further disarray. Yet, with no owner to keep the building supported, and no security guard to keep fiends out, and keep the animatronics in, what’s next for the pizza place?

These horror games explore strange and specific fears that can cause some players to find them even more terrifying.

Surely the story of the key animatronics does not end here, where they will just build up dust and occasionally bite people who dare to break in? It leaves many theories and unanswered questions as to what the animatronics will do next. After all, it’s not like they can just take a deserved vacation somewhere.

5 Where Is Balloon Boy Going?

  • Balloon Boy leaves Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place behind for a taxi ride

Balloon Boy is perhaps the creepiest animatronic in Five Nights at Freddy’s. Although he’s technically a figurine, he still displays a level of sentience behind that toothy grin and dead-blue eyes. Balloon Boy is seen at the end of the film, getting into a taxi. Yet, where is he going, and how on Earth is he going to pay for the cab fare?

Perhaps Balloon Boy enjoys the company of the Freddy Fazbear Pizza Place, and with his old home in tatters, he might be making the long journey to another location, holding more of William Afton’s victims, and more animatronics that he can joyfully creep out with his giggles and smiles.

4 What’s Next For Mike?

Mike Schmidt in Five Nights at Freddy's
  • Mike survives Five Nights at Freddy’s, but is his story really over?

Mike Schmidt may have survived Five Nights at Freddy’s (literally), but does that mean his story has to be over? It was refreshing to see a flawed and troubled character, and even though Mike managed to avenge his deceased brother by the death of William Afton, he is still taking care of his younger sister Abby, and he still is without a job to keep a roof on their heads and keep custody of her.

Perhaps, with Mike’s experience, he could venture to a new Freddy Fazbear Pizza Place location, since he’s no stranger to animatronics that want to stuff him into literal death traps. Mike is a fan-favorite character in the movie and the Five Nights at Freddy’s games, so hopefully, his story continues into a sequel.

3 How Many Animatronics Are There?

  • More than the core 5 animatronics feature in the movie in subtle easter eggs

The confirmed animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy’s are Freddy, Golden Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, Foxy, and Balloon Boy. Many more can be found across various Easter eggs and theories, but the ones that move are listed above. However, it begs the question of how many animatronics are there.

2 Will Vanessa Wake Up?

vanessa in her police uniform
  • Vanessa's story ends with her in a coma

Vanessa’s fate in Five Nights at Freddy’s is left unclear, and she seems to be in a coma as a result of her injuries from her own father, William Afton. This could be a reference to Five Nights at Freddy’s4 when the protagonist is theorized to be in a coma, or, it could just leave room for a potential future for Vanessa.

Whatever the case, it seems that Vanessa’s story isn’t finished, and hopefully one day she will wake up, and maybe even have a rematch against her father now in the Springtrap suit.

1 Was Mike’s Brother An Animatronic?

garrett schmidt being taken away
  • Garrett is murdered by the Yellow Rabbit, like the souls in the animatronics

Garrett Schmidt was tragically taken from his parents and his brother and kidnapped then killed by William Afton. While Garrett’s body was never found, his fate is clear after William Afton confesses to the murder, and even says how he gave Garrett’s toy plane to his own daughter. However, was Garrett another victim of the animatronics, and was his body placed into one of them to avoid detection from the police?

It's left unanswered where Garrett is. If he’s buried somewhere, or he has become something else. It would be interesting to see Mike return for a sequel, and even more interesting, yet tragic, if Garrett is now an animatronic in a new Freddy Fazbear Pizza Place.
