Five Nights at Freddy's continues to dominate the box office. However, it recently added a streaming record to its achievements.

The long-awaited Five Nights at Freddy's movie was a surprise box office hit. The film was initially announced in 2015 but was frequently delayed for various reasons. It was then revealed that the film would be released simultaneously in theaters and streaming on Peacock, which would usually hurt a film's box office success. Additionally, before the film's release, it received several negative reviews. However, that wasn’t enough to stop Five Nights At Freddy's from being a box office hit.

Five Nights At Freddy's Director Reveals If There Will Be An R-Rated Cut

The Five Nights at Freddy's movie director Emma Tammi addressed the R-rated cut rumors, and her response might not please horror fans.

Despite the negative reviews and being available to stream on Peacock while playing in theaters, Five Nights at Freddy's grossed $80 million domestically in its opening weekend on a $20 million budget. This box office success became even more impressive after NBCUniversal announced the film broke the record for the most-watched title on Peacock in the first five days or, in this case, the first five nights. According to NBCUniversal, Five Nights at Freddy's beat out Halloween Ends, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bel-Air, and The Best Man: The Final Chapters to become the record holder.

The other accolades that Five Nights at Freddy's has received on the streaming platform include being the most-watched entertainment title across all genres since its debut and the biggest opening ever for a film on Peacock through five days. NBCUniversal did not release official data for how much the film was streamed, which is not surprising. Hopefully, the film will appear on the Nielsen streaming charts next month if the film can beat out others on different streaming platforms, which will be difficult with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse streaming on Netflix.

It is rare for a film to do well in theaters when also being available to stream the same day. When Warner Bros. decided to release their films on Max the same day as their theatrical release during the pandemic, it hurt the box office performance of films like Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad but drastically improved their number of subscribers.

Luckily for Five Nights at Freddy's fans, the film succeeded on streaming and at the box office, which bodes well for a possible sequel in the future. The franchise has a lot more lore to explore, and with the financial success of the film, a sequel is pretty much a sure thing.

Five Nights at Freddy's is currently available in theaters and streaming on Peacock.
