Mega Cat Studios has announced the new side-scrolling horror game Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit, coming to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Switch, and PC (Steam). The story behind Into the Pit originated from the Fazbear Frights book series, written by Five Nights At Freddy's creator and developer Scott Cawthon. Now, the novella-length tale is getting a video game adaptation, spearheaded by the studio responsible for Log Jammers, Monopoly Junior, Power Rangers: Beast Morphers, and more.

Into the Pit follows Oswald, a 10-year-old boy who visits an abandoned Freddy Fazbear's Pizza and decides to test out the old ball pit that years of neglect had laid waste to. After jumping inside, he awakens in 1985, where he witnesses Spring Bonnie murdering six young children. Oswald's father finds him and pulls him free of the ball pit's influence, but switches places with Spring Bonnie, who acts as Oswald's father in the real world. Oswald sets his sights on Spring Bonnie, hoping to put an end to his reign of terror and rescue his trapped father.

Five Nights at Freddy's Into the Pit - Official Trailer

A new pixilated side-scrolling FNAF game takes the franchise back to its roots, complete with an appearance by the fearsome Springtrap.

The gameplay trailer was revealed exclusively as part of Mega Cat Studio's Guerrilla Collective 2024 showcase, while Into the Pit was officially announced to kick off Five Nights at Freddy's 10th Anniversary. Alongside the announcement trailer, Five Nights at Freddy's: Into the Pit was also added to Steam, while an official Jeff's Pizza website was also unveiled. At the moment, it is unclear what purpose the website serves, but the main page alludes to a "grand opening" on June 12.

Five Nights At Freddy's: Into the Pit Celebrates 10 Years of FNAF

Five Nights At Freddy's: Into the Pit will act as a spin-off game separate from the main storyline, while the last FNAF game to continue the central timeline was last year's Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2. The next game on the agenda is Five Nights at Freddy's: Survival Crew, a Roblox game that was accidentally released to the public in 2023 but was met with backlash from fans due to its unfinished state. Cawthon stated at the time that Survival Crew was "in no way ready to be released to the public," but fans can expect it to release later this year.

The Fazbear Frights anthology series began with Into the Pit back in 2019, prompting Cawthon to release 11 more books and five graphic novels. Cawthon originally planned for the anthology to end after five books, but this grand total was extended numerous times until he eventually settled on 12. Many other Fazbear Frights concepts could receive video game adaptations in the future, but after the Five Nights at Freddy's live-action movie was greenlit for a sequel recently, Scott Cawthon might have his hands full in the coming years.
