The official trailer for the second adaptation of Stephen King's Firestarter has been released, which puts the integral characters in heated arguments and scenarios. The first trailer is the perfect introduction to the upcoming thriller, starring Zac Efron as the father of a young girl, portrayed by Ryan Kiera Armstrong, dealing with strange superpowers that allow her to set things on fire.

Along with the trailer for Firestarter, the official poster for the upcoming Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions film was also revealed, confirming that the movie is all set to make its theatrical debut on May 13, 2022, which happens to be Friday the 13th. What’s interesting, though, is that the film will also be released onto the Peacock streaming service simultaneously.

The trailer for the Firestarter remake begins with Armstrong's Charlie McGee informing her father that “something feels weird,” followed by a scene of her at school where she loses control over her emotions. Even though she tries hard to remember her father’s rules and stay calm, she causes an explosion in the school bathroom, which injures her class teacher. It seems like Efron's Andy McGee is trying to protect her from being captured and being turned into an experimental subject.

The main plot is revealed as part of the Firestarter trailer, which shows a government agency looking to harness Charlie’s powers. It is noted that “she may be capable of a nuclear explosion,” which could explain the government’s interest in her powers. The official synopsis also reveals that the agency “wants to harness her unprecedented gift for creating fire into a weapon of mass destruction.” After the family’s location is revealed, agents show up at their home to capture Charlie, but it seems like she will have other fiery plans.

The Firestarter trailer promises a lot of explosions, mystery, and as the name of the film suggests, fire. While it initially establishes Charlie’s character as a scared, little girl, by the end of the video she appears to be a lot more in control of her abilities and almost enjoying the chaos around her. “I don’t want to hurt anyone, but it feels kind of good,” she is heard saying as she lets out a gush of flames.

This isn’t the first time that King's popular 1980 novel has been adapted for film. The first adaptation was released in 1984, with a young Drew Barrymore portraying the role of Charlie. Apart from Efron and Armstrong, the upcoming Firestarter remake stars Sydney Lemmon as Vicky McGee, Michael Greyeyes as John Rainbird, John Beasley, and Gloria Reuben.

Firestarter will premiere in theaters and stream on Peacock on May 13, 2022.
