In many anime and manga, fire-based abilities and powers are regular occurrences; they are the highlights of anime such as Fairy Tail, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, and others. Interestingly, Fire Force advances the concept of fire and presents a world with flame as its very essence, tying it to religion, a source of sustenance (Amaterasu), and the core of its characters' offensive capabilities.

From Arthur’s Adolla Burst to Benimaru’s hybrid abilities, the power system of Fire Force features a wide variety of classifications while highlighting a bunch of interesting characters. Here’s a proper explanation of the power system in Fire Force.

Infernals

a group of infernals

This generation of Pyrokinetics are characters in Fire Force that turn into infernals for different reasons. A striking feature of 'infernals' is that they lose all sense of reason -- their body adopts a brownish color due to the negative effects of being consumed by fire. On rare occasions, there are infernals that still remain in control of their sense of reason due to their strong will. Putting these infernals “to rest” is the priority of the Special Fire Force Brigade – a group of special individuals with adept control over fire.

There are three categories of infernals in the .anime series. The first is the regular infernals – a product of unpredictable combustions. The artificial infernals belong to the second category since they are forced creations usually carried out by the White-Clad, the villain group of the show. The last and most threatening category is the Demon infernals created by fusing corpses with Adolla to create powerful beings.

Second-Generation Pyrokinetics

The Second-Generation Pyrokinetics can’t produce flames, but their bodies are closely linked to flames – this category of Pyrokinetics can manipulate flames in different ways. A classic example of a Second-Generation Pyrokinetic is Maki Oze, who can perceive fires and even create fire-based entities from flames. These ‘familiars’ she creates can increase their firepower depending on the size of fires in the surrounding area. Another unique excellent Second-Generation Pryokinetic is Lieutenant Hinawa.

Hinawa's flame manipulation ability is a bit specific; he can manipulate surrounding firearms, allowing him to easily change bullet direction and the level of impact it causes. Maki and Hinawa are excellent Second-Generation Pyrokinetics, but one of the most powerful Second-Genereration Pyrokinetic is Karim Flam. Using sound, Karim can convert heat & flames to ice. Consequently, his ability to use the most ideal flame antithesis, ice, makes him a formidable opponent for Third-Generation Pyrokinetics.

Third-Generation Pyrokinetics

The Third-Generation Pyrokinetics are an evolved version of Second-Generation Pyrokinetics. Their apparent difference in their abilities is the power to directly produce their own flames. The reason Fire Force characters are closely linked with flames is due to the ignition occurrences that are commonplace in their world. So, all the generations are simply different adaptations and evolutions traceable to the 'ignition' phenomenon. The Third-Generations are the most advanced user of flames.

With their internal body oxygen, they can directly create and control flames; however, their level of flame manipulation pales significantly compared to Second-Generation users. A prime example is Shinra Kusakabe, the protagonist of Fire Force. By producing flames, he can reach immense speeds. In the First Season of Fire Force, his abilities allowed him to surpass even the speed of light, depicting the power levels of Second-Generations. Another notable Second-Generation is Leonard Burns, who uses Voltage Nova. This ability allows Buns to use the thermal energy he creates within his body like a furnace to exponentially increase his attack power.

Adolla Users

"Adolla" is the highlight of Fire Force. This pure and unsullied flame was the cause of the Great Cataclysm, a notable devastating event that occurred 250 years prior to Fire Force's present timeline. Adolla comes from a different dimension that is not of Earth, so the flame is unnatural; it is speculated in the anime that Adolla powers Amaterasu – an entity that spurred civilization. Impressively, there are individuals that can use Adolla, allowing them to gain otherworldly abilities and bizarre strength.

In the series, all the Adolla Users are either within the Special Fire Force Brigade or the White-Clad. One of the users of Adolla, is Sho Kusakabe – the brother of Shinra Kusakabe. This Adolla Burst user can use his powers to manipulate time and space in an extraordinary manner. Inca Kasugatani is another Adolla Burst User that can predict the eruption of fires before they happen. Finally, the most notable user of Adolla is Shinra, who will probably be the strongest Adolla Burst Pyrokinetic in the series.

Hybrids

Apart from the usual pyrokinetic variations, there is an extremely rare category of individuals that can control fire. These individuals are referred to as “the Hybrids or the Fifth-Generation Pyrokinetics. Fifth-Generation Pyrokinetics can use the abilities of Second and Third-Generation Pyrokinetics, making them immensely powerful. One such character that belongs to this category is Benimaru Shinmon widely known as “The Mightiest Soldier” in the series. His abilities truly make him the mightiest. Benimaru can manipulate flames as a Second-Generation Pyrokinetic and produce immense fire powers. These fire-based abilities, coupled with his intelligence and jaw-dropping physical-combat prowess, make him one of the strongest characters in the show.
