Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a Nintendo Switch exclusive game that was developed by Intelligent Systems and Koei Tecmo as the 16th instalment in the Fire Emblem series, a tactical role-playing video game franchise dating as far back as 1990.

Recently, Fire Emblem: Three Houses has received a Warrior, or Musou, game, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. As expected, now, fans are hoping to hear news of the announcement of a new mainline Fire Emblem game soon. With Three Houses being a massive hit, there are quite a few of its features that should make it into the next game.

9 Gambit

Gambit is a game-changing feature that was introduced in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The Gambit action depends on a unit's assigned battalion before the start of the battle. This action can be one of two – attack gambit, or support gambit. The attack gambit, as the name suggests, sends the character's battalion on the offensive.

It can be physical or magical based, and if it lands, it can damage and stun the attacked enemy and the close-by enemy units for one turn. Support units can have an array of support mechanisms that benefit one's own units, with healing and increased mobility being some of the very best ones.

8 Battalions

Battalions are essential for gambit attacks and support, however, that is not their only use. Indeed, battalions are a group of NPCs that can be assigned to a unit before battle and this can increase or decrease certain statistics, including, but not limited to, strength, magic, defense, resistance, and so on.

Battalions are unlocked as the player progresses through the game and plays prologues. Every character has one canon battalion but they're not restrained to it. Not all battalions are created equally, and some could need a higher authority level to be able to equip.

7 Tutoring

Tutoring is a new feature that permits the player to increase their units' proficiency outside of battle more efficiently. As Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a game that puts the player in a War Instructor's shoes at the Garreg Mach Monastery, it comes naturally that Byleth, the main character, should be able to instruct and help their students develop throughout the game.

During tutoring, Byleth has the ability to focus on multiple proficiencies, like sword, or cavalry, for example, to develop within the students. Byleth's own level in the skill and the student's skill alignment (whether it's a strength, weakness or neutral) can affect how quickly a student can learn and level up these skills and techniques.

6 Charm Statistic

The Charm Statistic is a new addition to the already many existing statistics in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's the only statistic that older experienced players had never seen before Three Houses. This addition is very relevant to other new ones, such as Gambit. As some fans know, the Charm Statistic affects how likely their battalion is to land an attack and how likely they are to avoid an enemy battalion's attack.

That's not all, however. It also increases the might of their own battalion too. This statistic has a natural growth rate for every character. As expected, it is higher in characters that have not just a charming attitude, but also good leadership. This statistic is highest for the House Leaders – the highest overall being Edelgard Von Hresvelg at 60% per level up.

5 Class Switching

One rather limiting thing about older Fire Emblem games was that it was harder to go back to an older class or even impossible, in some cases. Fire Emblem: Three Houses changed this out entirely. The player has the ability to re-class any already unlocked class for any character.

This means a player can go back and master older classes later on in the game if the need arises. Three Houses, in general, had great class flexibility and freedom compared to older installments that really limited what could be done with each unit. Fans would certainly love this feature in future installments as well.

4 Combat Skills

In older Fire Emblem games, Combat Skills were activated based on a luck percentage. In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, however, Combat Skills are activated with weapons' durability. Combat Skills are a game changer as they allow for more options during combat to dish out more damage or to support the unit itself, or other allied units on the battlefield.

Combat Skills are unlocked as a character levels up in certain proficiency, and some can be limited to specific characters, giving more diversity among the units. This is certainly a feature worth keeping in the next installment.

3 Map Zoom-In

While this might be a small feature, it can be fun to use occasionally. In Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the player has the ability to zoom in on the map to have a better look at the environment and the unit itself, with its battalion, if equipped.

It's not an essential feature, but it can give a better perspective on the battlefield. It makes fans appreciate the work put in the game more, regardless of whether they're zooming in on terrain designs or characters. This feature will most likely make its way to future Fire Emblem games as well.

2 Brawling

Gauntlets are brand new weapons introduced in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. It's a weapon that guarantees a double hit no matter the unit's speed compared to the enemy. Gauntlets make for an extremely overpowered weapon and opens fans to an array of new character classes, specifically the Brawler class line. Around the end game, the player can unlock one of the most powerful game classes, the War Master, which requires a high Brawling proficiency.

The only downside to this is that the Brawler line and War Master class are gender-locked to male units only, making it impossible for high-strength female characters, like Edelgard or Hilda, to access. Fans could perhaps see this feature return, but without being gender locked.

1 Spells And Magic

In previous Fire Emblem installments, magic, whether black or white, was supposed to be used up, like weapons are in Three Houses. In Three Houses, only weapons have durability. Magic is acquired as magic proficiency is leveled up, and each character gets a limited use per battle, depending on the spell and character class.

This is more efficient as, in older games, powerful spells used to be very valuable and rare, pushing the player to only use them in case of absolute necessity. Each character, however, has its own spell list, limiting how useful some characters can be magic wise.
