A new trailer for Fire Emblem Engage gives an extensive overview of the game, from its premise to gameplay mechanics. With the game now only a few weeks from release, this trailer explains much of what to expect, introducing Alear and their case of amnesia after a thousand-year slumber. Upon their awakening, they are tasked with finding the twelve Emblem Rings, which contain the souls of past Fire Emblem lords. They must then use their power to stop the looming threat of the Fell Dragon, as the Kingdom did before. To that end, this quest involves them facing off against a group known as the Four Hounds, as they wish to corrupt the Emblems and use it for their own nefarious ends.

Currently, this trailer is available to view on Nintendo’s official channel, albeit exclusively in Japanese (translated by CGTio). This trailer for Fire Emblem Engage begins with a brief introduction of the four Kingdoms of the continent Elyos, along with the player being able to choose between the male and female versions of Alear. It also quickly shows some of the cutscenes in the game, from Marth’s first summoning by Alear to their army fighting a group of invading enemies in the castle.

The trailer then goes over the gameplay side, going over the basics such as the enemy and player phases, the objectives of a map, the Weapon Triangle, along with the multiple members of Alear’s army. The player will have a lot of freedom to build their army, with over fifty different classes to choose from to reclass these characters. This ranges from standard pegasus knight units to brand-new classes like the Wolf Knight.

Using the power of the Emblem Rings, the equipped party member will not only get a boost in stats, they will be transformed and can use a variety of combat techniques to gain an advantage. This includes a unique Engage weapon and Engage Skill, which the trailer gives a quick rundown for some of the characters. Sigurd’s Emblem Ring for example provides incredible mobility, while Celica’s Emblem excels in offensive magic. Any of the characters in the player’s army can equip these rings, allowing them to be optimized to a great degree.

The trailer also gives a quick look at the activities that can be found on the floating island of Somniel, such as minigames, fishing, and more that can be found in this new hub world. The rest of the trailer focuses on the game’s story along with its cutscenes. This includes teases of Alear’s past, the death of Alear’s mother, and even scenes where the Emblems are corrupted by the antagonistic force. It also gives fans a look at the antagonistic Fell Dragon lord, Sombron, and the powers that his faction has.

Fire Emblem Engage will release on January 20 for Nintendo Switch.
