The latest gameplay preview for Fire Emblem Engage is focused on a returning Lucina, one of the lord protagonists from Fire Emblem Awakening. This preview video also focuses on her gameplay mechanics as an Emblem Ring, one of Engage's new mechanics. These rings contain the souls of past Fire Emblem protagonists, which all provide a unique benefit based on the game they are from. Lucina's mechanics are no different, as she provides the player with additional mechanics that are references to Awakening's mechanics.

A lot of this information for Fire Emblem Engage has been shared via the series' official Twitter account, including the mechanics and characters featured. The latest preview video (translated by SatsumaFS) focuses on Lucina, where she is described as a princess who believes in hope, and never falls into despair, reflecting her role as a light from a ruined future coming to save the past. As the game's Emblem of Awakening, she is best utilized when fighting alongside her allies.

The video first demonstrates her Synchro Skill, the Dual Strike, the name being a reference to one of Awakening's mechanics. It allows the equipped party member to execute a Chain Attack regardless of the class they have. The amount of chances for a Chain Attack will increase depending on the attacking character's range. Lucina also has an Engage weapon, the Noble Rapier, where it is super effective against both cavalry and armored foes, much like Eirika's Engage Weapon.

Lucina's Engage Skill is known as Bond Shield, where it can have a high chance of nullifying damage for any adjacent allies, much like the Pair Up mechanic in Fire Emblem Awakening. When this skill is used by a unit that uses the martial arts style as their weapon, this chance is upped to 100% guarantee. The last thing shown in the video is her Engage technique, All for One, which allows all allies within two squares of her to participate in a series of chain attacks. To best utilize this skill, all allied units must be positioned in ideal spots in order for all of them to attack at once.

Lucina is one of Nintendo's most iconic heroines ever since the release of Awakening back in 2012. She is not only a character that is prominently featured in most Fire Emblem crossover events or collaborations, she is a beloved character among the fanbase. With her being one of the game's primary Emblem Rings, fans can expect to see her be a mentor or companion to many of the newer characters in Engage.

Fire Emblem Engage is launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch on January 20, 2023.
