Tempest Trials

Fire-Emblem-Engage-09

Tempest Trials will sound familiar to players of Fire Emblem Heroes, though they function a little differently here.Tempest Trials are unlocked after Chapter 11 and are sets of three consecutive maps with randomized enemies. Players must complete these in sequence using the same team of units. The units chosen must be used for all maps attempted. They retain any damage that they take, so units lost will be unavailable for the rest of the run. (Players using Classic mode should be aware that permadeath is disabled while attempting Tempest Trials.) All items used are returned at the end of the Tempest Trials, to encourage players to go all out to clear the trial.

Tempest Trials have a difficulty setting which goes from 1-40. Increasing the difficulty will increase the level of the enemy units, with difficulties 1-20 containing enemies in base classes with a level equal to the difficulty. From levels 21-40 enemy units will be in advanced classes with levels equal to the difficulty minus 20, making them considerably stronger.

Completing a map on a Tempest Trial earns a set amount of experience, which increases with each consecutive map completed when challenging the Tempest Trial. Completing all the maps in a Trial will earn the player an item used to enhance Engage Weapons at the Ring Chamber, allowing players to boost the stats of these special weapons.

Relay Trials

Relay Trials are the second type of Trial available at the Tower of Trials, accessible from as early as Chapter 6. This type of Trial requires Nintendo Online in order to participate. It also requires players to spend a Relay Ticket and has players taking a set number of turns on a map before handing off command to another player.

The goal here is for the chain of players to complete the map, at which point all participants are rewarded. Only the player beginning the Relay has to spend a ticket, and players may join a Relay without needing to expend one of their tickets.

Outrealm Trials

Outrealm Trials are another Trial Type that requires a Nintendo Online Subscription, also available after Chapter 6. These Trials allow players to create and share their own Battle Maps, and face off against the Battle Maps other players have created, offering players the opportunity to create their own challenges and seek out fresh challenge even after taking on every challenge the developers have to offer.

Fire Emblem Engage is available for Nintendo Switch.
