In Fire Emblem Engage players have a ton of story maps to complete and challenges to overcome, and that means occasionally players might find a challenge their current army struggles to overcome. When this happens, a good way to improve the odds of success is by strengthening units by taking on optional maps like Skirmishes.

Fire Emblem Engage allows players to take part in Skirmishes after a certain point in the story, returning to old maps to take on a randomized assortment of enemy soldiers (often various forms of the Corrupted), earn some EXP, and nab some extra items and money. Training maps are similarly useful for this, allowing players to engage in a violent sparring match with the soldiers of a previously visited castle.

How Skirmishes Work

Fire-Emblem-Engage-Chapter-4-b

Skirmishes will begin appearing after chapter 6, spawning at random previously visited areas on the World Map. Heading over to these locations (the Fast Travel Menu labels them so they're easier to find) allows players to take on whatever Bandits, Corrupted, or other Enemy has taken up residence. These battles play out similarly to any other battle in the game, and can be approached in much the same way, though the enemy units are randomized and effects like fog of war might be applied even if they weren't present in the story or paralogue version of the map.

Something very important for players to know is that the Donation level of the Region a Skirmish takes place in has a rather important effect on the Skirmishes themselves. Increasing the Donation Level of a Region increases the strength and number of enemies that appear on the World Map, along with raising the chances of Gold and Silver Corrupted spawning.

Gold and Silver Corrupted Skirmishes will be marked on the Fast Travel Menu with a spikier version of the Skirmish icon, color coded accordingly. Gold Corrupted Skirmishes contain Gold Corrupted that drop a ton of money when killed, making them fantastic for Alear's wallet (and helping to recoup those massive investments into the region), while Silver Corrupted Skirmishes contain Silver Corrupted that yield a ton of extra EXP when defeated, growing the army's strength considerably.

Training Battles

Instead of Skirmishes, Castle Maps from the story will periodically become home to a Training battle. These special battles have the player's army going up against the soldiers of the Castle, and grant bonus EXP to every unit that participated in the battle when completed. This makes them a high priority for players that want to grow the strength of their units quickly and efficiently.
