Fire Emblem Engage is a turn-based strategy role-playing game that relies on the player using their head to control a group of units through chapters of battle while exploring an incredible well-thought-out story. With the introduction of the Emblem Rings in the latest of the Fire Emblem franchise, old mechanics have been locked away behind interacting with the heroes that live within the Emblem Rings as well as some new features for players to explore.

While players were able to freely make their characters proficient in all weapon types in Fire Emblem Three Houses with only few restrictions depending on if they were on a mount or not, Fire Emblem Engage went back to basics of only certain classes being able to use certain weapons. However, by putting in the work players are able to make their characters proficient in other weapons while still restricting them to classes.

What Do Weapon Proficiencies Do

Weapon Proficiencies are vital for players that are hoping to level up their units into more diverse classes. While it is possible to just use a Master Seal to progress the unit's class to a more advanced version of what they're already using which may not allow them to try other weapons.

By unlocking other weapon proficiencies this allows the player to expand the variety of units they can bring into battle, as well as single units being able to use more than one type of weapon that can be advantages against their opponents.

How To Unlock A Weapon

Weapon proficiencies can only be unlocked through bonding with the twelve Emblem Rings available in Fire Emblem Engage. As a unit bonds with the ring through battle as well as other activities they will unlock not only skills but also the proficiency of the weapons that hero commonly used.

Thankfully the player doesn't have to keep the ring on the unit once this bond level has been reached either and therefore once the character has bonded to the right level they can tell progress to the advanced class through using a Master Seal.

The Quickest Way To Bond With An Emblem

Although a player can decide to take an emblem with a unit into battle to strengthen the bond between the two characters, an easier and faster way to level up these characters' supports is by having the unit the player wishes to level up fight against the Emblem in the Arena that can be accessed through the Somniel.

As long as the player has enough bond fragments available they can directly level the relationship between the two characters to the required bond level needed to unlock that weapon proficiency.

Fire Emblem Engage is available for Nintendo Switch.
