Fire Emblem Engage is the newest title in a long series of Fire Emblem RPGs. This newest game contains not only the Tactics-like play that fans look for but also some interesting little mini-games, relationship management, and even a cafe where players can take their units out to dinner.

One of the activities on the floating island of Somniel is a fishing mini-game that Alear can complete to get fish fillets. These can be used to make some of the character's favorite meals in the cafe when players invite them over for a meal and a conversation.

How to Unlock Fishing in Fire Emblem Engage

The fishing mechanic in Fire Emblem Engage doesn't unlock until chapter 9, called a Clash of Forces. Once this chapter begins, players should see a pop-up that lets them know that the fishing hole is ready in Somniel. Look on the western side of the map for a little fishing hook to find its location. When Alear arrives, they will meet up with Alcryst, who is quickly replaced by Diamont. The prince will give Alear a basic fishing rod, then give them instructions on how to pull up a fish.

How to Fish in Fire Emblem Engage

Other than a fishing rod, Fire Emblem Engage players don't need bait or anything to get started. Walk up to the water and study the ripples that appear. Small fish will make small circles in the water, while larger, better fish will make slightly larger ripples. There isn't much of a size difference between the ripple size of the large and small fish, so it might take a minute to distinguish them.

Press A over the location where players want the new Fire Emblem main character named Alear to throw the line. Watch the hook bob, waiting until it drops below the water, then press A. Next is a series of quick-time events. When the screen has the left stick on the screen, players will need to pull the fish back in the opposite direction from its movement.

Next, players will need to press A quickly over and over again when the A button appears on screen. Keep following the QTEs until the fish is reeled in.

Players of this Switch-exclusive JRPG have a limited number of fishing attempts per day, so make the most of each try by choosing the biggest and best ripples Alear comes across. For a little extra luck, players can bring Sommie along too; this supernatural pet doesn't seem to actually do anything while players fish, but it's too cute not to take along.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
