Fire Emblem Engage was released recently on the Nintendo Switch exclusively on the 20th of January. Being the newest Fire Emblem title, it has gotten fans of the game and its previous titles excited already, and rightly so. The game has a plethora of new features to excite the fans and one new feature that has proven to be a fun mechanic is the Emblem Rings.

The most interesting thing about the Emblem Rings in Engage is, without a doubt, the fact that they are important characters from previous game titles. Not only is this more exciting for the fans, as they get to see some of their favorite characters in a brand-new game, but it also allows new players to discover these old Fire Emblem legendary characters.

12 Emblem Rings are available in the game, from characters like the First Fire emblem protagonist, the Hero King Marth, to the previous most recent, the instructor in the Officer’s Academy, Byleth.

5 Eirika Fights With Her Brother

A revelation that was made prior to the release of the game was that Eirika, the princess of Renais from the Fire Emblem title Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stone, would be fighting alongside her twin brother, Ephraim as an Emblem Ring. So far she’s the only known Emblem Ring who exists with someone else. Her ring is even named the Ring of the Azure twins.

The fact that they have similar fighting styles might have contributed to this, as it isn’t possible with other close duos like Celica and Alm. Their engage attack and skill Twin Strike and Scared Twins are promising.

4 Additional Rings In The Expansion Pass

Besides the known 12 Emblem Rings characters that the players get with just the game purchase, many others will be available via the expansion pass, with one already released with the game on January 20. This current expansion pass offers players 2 new Emblem Rings to use.

Three characters from the previous Fire Emblem title, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, and 1 iconic Fire Emblem character that dates back to the first game, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, with appearances in many other titles. These characters are none other than the Three House leaders at the Officer’s Academy: Dimitri, Edelgard, and Claude, and the voice of Naga, Tiki.

3 Stat Boosts

The usefulness of the rings is shown a lot during combat. Indeed, the rings have a multitude of advantages, one of them being the stat boosts they provide to the equipped unit. After picking a unit to sync with an Emblem Ring, the unit will get a boost in various stats. The boost depends on which Emblem Ring is chosen as each and every one is unique and offers different advantages to the character.

Another upside to equipping a character with an Emblem Ring is the access to special skills. For example, once equipped with Marth, Alear will get access to Divine Speed and Lodestar Rush. Every ring is different and some characters work better with a specific ring that compliments their fighting style.

2 Can Be Used By Anyone

While it would seem at first that these Emblem Rings can only be used by the player, specifically Alear, or other major characters, it has already been revealed that these rings can be used by pretty much anyone – ally or enemy alike. As such, it also ties to the core part of the story for this game, and that is going to be a quest to collect all the rings to defeat the Fell Dragon, the biggest threat to this fictional world.

With that, Alear has to fight against a massive threat in order to protect all the rings as their power is highly valued by all of the world’s citizens, especially those with bad intentions who wish to stop Alear.

1 Engaging With Emblem Rings

The most interesting ability that can be gained from the Emblem Rings is definitely the ability to Engage. Engaging occurs when a unit and an Emblem fuse together. This new form makes for an extremely overpowered unit that can wreak havoc on the battlefield and turn the tides of the battle.

That said, it is only a temporary power-up that lasts for 3 turns and needs recharging, which happens by filling up the engage meter back up after every use, meaning the player must plan around it and unleash its power just at the right moment. Depending on the Emblem Ring, different powers can be attained. These rings can also allow an ultimate attack to be used, known as Engage attack.
