The fifth chapter of Fire Emblem Engage is about learning more about Somniel and taking on yet another battle. Players will unlock a few stores and the Fire Emblem Ring Chamber in the safe haven, so they will finally be able to buy goods and improve their bonds with their Emblems. Even more pieces of Somniel will also unlock, giving players access to a number of interesting and useful rooms. These should be explored before heading into this chapter's difficult combat mission to take back Celine and Alfred's home castle from the Fell Dragon's army.

Spending Some Time in Somniel

In Chapter 5, players unlock a number of new locations inside the floating safe island of Somniel. Players will get access to the Ring Chamber, a blacksmith, an item shop, the guardian spirit of Queen Lumera, and more.

  • The workout room allows players to raise their stats.
  • The blacksmith for purchasing and selling weapons is located in the center of Somniel.
  • The item shop contains potions, temporary stat buffs, and other healing stuff.
  • The location previously labeled as "Altar?" now has a little friend on it. Interact with the spirit to gain a new little dog-like friend that players can dress up, feed, pet, and play with. Its name is Sommie, and it was a good friend of Alear's mother, the Queen Lumera.
  • Players now have the ability to adopt pets like dogs and cats.
  • The Ring Chamber allows players to shine their Emblem Rings to improve bonds with their Emblems. Here, they can also make minor rings to help buff those who aren't already wearing an Emblem Ring.
  • At this point, players who have purchased the Fire Emblem Engage DLC Expansion Pass will gain a whole slew of items. Each of these are used to permanently buff one stat.
  • If players have gotten the bonus code from Fire Emblem Heroes for Engage, they will get their bonuses here. This includes three special bond rings and three high-tier weapons.

Unlocking the World Map in Fire Emblem Engage

Fire Emblem Engage Engage Female Alear Close Up

This is the point where players also get to unlock the World Map in this Switch exclusive. This map will show the next location of the next story mission while also giving players a lot of info on each location.

Players cannot head to Somniel through this map; they need to access it in the menu instead. When selecting a new fight from the World Map, players can see the most popular units other players have brought with them if they are online, including who has paired which Emblem with which character.

Be careful in the World Map, however, because players can trigger Skirmishes. These random battles occur when players walk over a previously defeated location; they can be challenging but will drop a lot of loot.

  • Skirmishes only happen when walking over a previously completed node.
  • Skirmishes have a better chance of giving players high-tier enemies if they have donated money to raise their donation level.
  • Players can adopt animals, earn items, and gain loads of gold and EXP from these battles.
  • These fights will be difficult, so make sure to set up units properly.
  • Skirmishes reset the arena fight counters.

The First Overword Fight in Fire Emblem

Fire-Emblem-Engage-Chapter-5-a

Now that the World Map is unlocked, players will find their first World Map story quest. They will need to take back to Castle from the Fell Dragon's troops. Alear must help Celine and Alfred's mother defend against the invading army. When selecting this mission, the screen will display the suggested level for not only units but also a menu to see what other players have brought to this battle if the Switch is online.

Once the battle begins, players will see there are two treasure chests. A thief will appear at some point, so they will want to make sure to get up to the chests and take the treasure before the thief gets away. Warping Fire Emblem's Celine up to that part of the map is a great way to stop that crook in his tracks, but make sure she is safe from other attackers; it can be easy to lose her as she is pretty squishy.

  • The left chest contains an Armor Slayer sword which does more damage to armored enemies.
  • The right chest contains an Obstruct; this item makes on square impassable for one turn. It has 10 charges.

Send Louis, Alear, and about half the remaining Fire Emblem Engage hero units up the middle to break down the door and attack the units on the other side. Send the others to the left, where there are more units and the thief. Keep in mind the weakness chart when moving units, and also keep an eye out for units with backup. Players will not have enough total units to exclude Vander from this fight, but they should try to use him as little as possible; players won't want him stealing XP from the units that will make better use of it.

After turn 4 in this 30-year-old video game franchise, four new enemy units will spawn in the two staircases; there will be one mounted and one archer unit at each stair. Also, powerful units will spawn that have resurrection stones; these mean players will have to defeat them twice. Keep in mind that if an enemy is defeated on a first hit, then uses a resurrection stone, players will not get their second hit if they have one.

The Boss Fight with Nelucce

Fire-Emblem-Engage-Chapter-5-d

In order to break the Fire Emblem villain Nelucce down, players will want to make sure to take out the other trash units surrounding him quickly. Nelucce has backup as well as a range of 2, so players will get hit twice if he and another enemy unit that is attacking are in range.

Make sure magic users and other squishy, ranged units are at full health before stepping into his range. Since Nelucce is an axe user, players will want to focus on him with sword attackers like Alear. Make sure the final hit is made by a unit that needs the EXP from the battle.

After Fire Emblem Engage players defeat him, Nelucce will drop a Seraph Robe, which increases one unit's max HP by 5. This is a great item for either Framme or Alear, who both have pretty low HP at this point.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
