Fire Emblem Engage is a tactical JRPG from Intelligent Systems and Nintendo. This game can be quite challenging, and players heading into this Tactics-like series for the first time might stumble over some of the fights. Not to worry, though, even with the difficulty ramping up in Chapter 4, Alear and their team will be able to take on the enemy units without much trouble. Thankfully, players will get to unlock another Emblem, a fan-favorite Fire Emblem hero named Celica. Together with some new friendly units, players will be able to crush the enemies with just a little planning.

Unlocking Somniel in Fire Emblem Engage

During the chapter, players will unlock a location called Somniel in Fire Emblem Engage. This floating island is a safe location where players can interact with characters and Emblems, better relationships by giving gifts, upgrade bonds with Emblems, and more. Players can watch and engage in support conversations; these will upgrade relationships between characters. Players can also sleep, rewatch cutscenes, and more in their bedroom. While the Arena and Ring Chambers aren't available yet, there is still plenty to do here.

The Battle in Chapter 4

Players will now have access to Sigurd's ring. While he gives bonuses to anyone he is bonded with, this Emblem does well with qi adepts like Framme. Pick whatever unit might need to move a little bit extra in this battle. At the start of combat, players will gain some extra units, including an armored unit named Louis, a flying mounted unit named Chloe, and Alfred's little sister Celine who is a strong Fire Emblem Engage magic user with the Emblem Celica.

  • There are enemies to the east and to the north; there is an armored unit in each direction. Make sure to send a well-guarded magic user to each of the armored units.
  • Players will want to avoid killing any units with Vander, as he is pre-promoted and will vacuum up a lot of XP away from the other units.
  • A great plan is to send Alear, Boucheron, and Clanne north while sending Alfed, Etie, and Framme to the east.
  • Make sure Chloe, who has high magic resistance, takes out the magic users before they can get to Louis.
  • This battle unlocks the rewind feature, so players can backtrack if they make a mistake.
  • If players are connected to online play, they can get extra XP from standing in spots where a lot of other players have lost units by standing in the spot that is highlighted. Players can also gain items in purple spots; these are locations where other gamers have felled many enemies.

  • Yellow-highlighted spots indicate hidden treasure; interact with these spots to gain items. The yellow spot closest to the starting spaces for the player's units has a Javelin weapon. The second has 2,000 Gold in it.

  • Celine can chat with Louis and Chloe during battle, but this does not give the player any items. It's mostly just fluff to build characterization in this January 2023 Switch title.

Now that Fire Emblem Engage players are set up to defeat the rush, they can begin their turns. Keep in mind that new units will spawn; there is a Ruffian who spawns in the upper section of the map after turn 1 that will pillage the yellow highlighted spots unless players get to them first or he is killed. After turns 3 and 4, additional units will spawn at the forts unless a friendly unit stands on the fort's spot.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
