Fire Emblem Engage is finally coming to a close. After about 40 hours of gameplay, players will have finally reached the last battle. Alear will need to take on their father, the Fell Dragon, and close the portal between worlds.

There are no Paralogues or side quests to distract players; it's just onto the final boss for one last epic battle between the Fell and the Divine. Fire Emblem Engage's Chapter 26 is the Last Engage for both Fell Dragon Sombron and all the 12 Emblems that players have painstakingly collected over the game.

The First Battle of Chapter 26 of Fire Emblem Engage

In order to get to the final battle, players will have to go to the Somniel; look for the glowing portal near Alear's bedroom. This will trigger the Chapter 26 story cutscenes and then directly into the fight, so players will need to be ready to never return to the floating island again. Stock up on any staffs, healing items, and boost those bonds with the Emblems one last time.

Once the battle begins in this tactical RPG, players will find themselves taking Sombron head on. He will be surrounded by Corrupted, but these enemies are fairly standard level-20 units with S-Tier weapons. The battlefield is pretty small, but players should be able to smash through both Sombron and the surrounding units. There are only two casters in the first fight, Sombron and one of the Corrupted. The map is also dotted with a few impassible rocks that players should be aware of. Players get to choose 14 units.

As for Sombron, he is a Dragon unit with the class Fell Monarch. He has two Revival Stones, giving him three health bars. While his has pretty high defense and resistance and some heavy-hitting magical attacks, this boss unit shouldn't be too hard to get rid of.

At the beginning of the battle, none of the enemy units are engaged, so players will need to walk up to them to get them to come battle against their units. Kill Sombron as quickly as possible; the number of enemy units remaining on the field does not seem to have an effect on how powerful the enemies are in round 2 of this Fire Emblem boss battle. It did not appear that new units would spawn in during this phase either.

The Second Battle of Chapter 26 of Fire Emblem Engage

In part two of Chapter 26, Sombron returns as the Fell Dragon Sombron. This new iteration of the boss is surrounded by a barrier that ignores 80% of the damage dealt to him. In order to lower the barrier, players will have to kill the Dark Emblem Corrupted units on each of the glowing plates surrounding the Dragon. Each kill will weaken the barrier damage reduction 20% of the total, going from 80% to 60% on the first kill, then to 40% and 20% before falling completely.

Each of the Dark Emblem Corrupted is an Emblem from one of the original Fire Emblem games that the 12 Emblems come from. If players attack that unit with the hero from the same game, they get a damage buff against that Corrupted. Sadly, since players don't get to choose the location of their units in this second phase, this can be a little bit challenging to achieve. But players can take these units down without the additional damage if need be.

Fire Emblem Engage's Sombron himself is stuck in place and cannot move. This boss also has 100 health and three Revival Stones, giving him 400 total health. He makes chain attacks less effective, mostly because he is so big and the map is so small that almost everyone can be in range for a chain attack at any time. His other powers are:

  • Disengage - This attack forces all a player's out of Engage status.
  • Dark Barrier +++ - He takes 80% less damage until players start knocking out the Dark Emblem Corrupted.

  • Fell Assault - Physical Attack with range of 1-3.
  • Fell Surge - Magical Attack with range of 1-3.
  • Whirling Death - A physical spin attack that deals damage to any unit within three spaces of him, which is basically the whole map.
  • Howling Beam - A guaranteed-hit magic attack that leaves miasma in its wake; this miasma buffs Sombron's Fell allies and debuffs a player's unit.
  • Keeping one unit inside his Fell Assault attack will force him to use this attack, freeing up other units to kill the remaining Dark Emblems.

Other than the Dark Emblems and Sombron, there are a handful of enemies, but these are pretty basic units. One of these has a healing staff, and that is about all players need to know about these additional foes. After this battle is complete, players will see a series of cutscenes, then the game is complete. At least until the next round of Fire Emblem Engage's DLC is available.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
