In order to succeed every time, players will most likely want a little heads-up on what is to come. When players get to Chapter 24 of Fire Emblem Engage, they can expect to see some new stuff around Somniel and a whole new story mission to take on.

In Somniel, players have some new items to look forward to. First, there is a volcano map in the Tower of Trials. The Flea market also has new stock of ingots and a new selection of presents as well. Make sure to stop by both the item and armory; while neither have anything new, both have restocked some big ticket items for players to grab extra copies of.

Players will also want to stock up on Warp and Reward staffs and shine up all those Emblem Rings to get ready for the next battle. Make sure to refill stock of all healing items as well.

Since there is no Paralogue for Chapter 24, players can head right into battle. Using the artifact that Zephia gave them, Alear and friends will find themselves 1,000 years in the past. They will need to take on past Alear, a selection of Corrupted units, and the Shard itself. Players get 14 total units, so they will be able to use all 14 Emblem Rings and Bracelets if they have the Fire Emblem Engage DLC Emblems.

  • Most units are standard, already promoted Fire Emblem Engage Corrupted enemy units with silver weapons.
  • There is one Corrupted unit in the upper lane that drops a Legendary Smash Axe, Ukonvasara.
  • In the middle lane, there is an S-Rank bow called Lendabair that will be dropped on the Corrupted's death.
  • Along the east side of the map, there are several healers.
  • Each of the three lanes has a Wyrm in it, and these Dragon-like enemies are particularly mean. They hit significantly harder than their brethren in previous chapters with the same range, slow movement, and massive amount of health as those before.
  • In the east of each lane, there is a manned ballista. Thankfully, there are many Fog tiles in the lanes to give the unit that stands in them an extra 30 to Avoidance.
  • Past Alear is the main enemy; they have two berserk-purple Revival Stones and Corrupted Marth. This version of Alear has fairly good avoidance and is camped in a fog tile, making them nearly impossible to hit without drawing them out. They have midrange defense and resistance as well. They will retain all of Marth's powers except one; the break attack doesn't appear and Alear does not seem to berserk in this one. This may be intended or may be a bug.
  • Past Alear has a Rapier with a bonus against Cavarly and Armored units. They also carry Marth's Mercurius and a Falchion 40 attack with good hit that is effective against dragon units like Alear and Veyle.

When the battle begins, Past Alear uses an avalanche attack in order to push players backwards. This will slow players down; every time an avalanche hits a unit, it is pushed back nearly to the start of the map; while the avalanche does no damage, the loss of movement is massive and will hurt player's chances of completing the map in the 20-turn time limit.

Enemy units do not move during avalanches. In order to prevent being pushed backwards, units must be directly in front of rocks, in between lanes, or in front of enemy units. Using obstructions like returning Fire Emblem hero Corrin's Dragon Vein and ice from Obstruction staffs will also keep units from being pushed back, but standing in front of a ballista will not.

Positioning will be paramount to getting through this level; make sure to move units into safe places. Thankfully, players of this 2023 Switch-exclusive release will get sufficient warning before a lane is flooded. Every unit except Past Alear and the units surrounding them will be engaged as soon as the battle begins, and new units will spawn in each lane every other turn.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
