The story of the JRPG Fire Emblem Engage is quickly heading toward a climax in Chapter 21. Players will find that they have a new Paralogue for Celica, but they will also have several big story battles in a row. In order to prepare for the big crescendo in Chapter 22, players will want to make sure to gather loads of items, the best possible weapons, and as many upgrades and levels as possible. At the beginning of The Return, there will be some new stuff in Somniel for players to try on, purchase, and fish with.

In Somniel, players will find that there are new items in the flea market, the item shop, the boutique, and the armory. In the flea market, there is new stock of iron and steel ingots. Timerra will also have a brand-new upgraded fishing rod called the Supreme Fishing Rod. It can handle massive fish, and smaller fish won't bite on it. This will help guarantee players will have better luck when going fishing in Fire Emblem Engage.

  • Players can find some new items in the Item Shop. There is now an Entrap, more Recovers, another Rescue, and a Fracture.
  • The Boutique, where Fire Emblem Engage characters can change clothes, has some new cold-weather gear and a new swimsuit-style outfit, as well as a very cute eye patch.
  • Players can also find new weapons in the Armory; there are now infinite basic silver weapons, Brave weapons, a Peshkatz, another copy of Bolganone, Thoron, and an Excalibur.

The Paralogue in Chapter 21 of Fire Emblem Engage: The Caring Princess

It's finally time for Calica's Paralogue. Players get 10 units to take on her multiplying army of phantoms. Players start on a ship with a flame cannon that players can use to slow down enemies. In the beginning, there are five advanced units plus Celica, but each of the other enemies will summon four phantoms around themselves. They are anchored and don't move, and if players don't kill them quickly, they will keep multiplying forever.

Celica is also standing on a protection tile, but she will Warp Ragnarok at the moment someone steps into her range. She's holding several weapons and staffs:

  • Seraphim - A powerful Tome.
  • A magical dark book that heals Celica when she hits.
  • Recover staff to heal her units.

Celica only has one Revival Stone, so she will have two health bars. Her powers are:

  • Resonance + gives her extra damage when she has 2 or more HP.
  • Echo can attack twice at 60% damage.
  • Warp Ragnarok allows her to warp up to 10 spaces and hit someone with a powerful magical blast.

At the beginning of combat, the summoners will bring new units immediately. The best way to handle this, if players are high enough level, is to put a fast flying unit with high resistance all the way to the left. This unit will be able to fly down into Celica's warp reach.

Then, move some powerhouse units south. Use Byleth's Goddess Dance or Rewarps to give them a second movement phase to get them close enough to hit Celica when she warps in. Then, take out both her health bars as quickly as possible. The other way to do this is to slowly head south, taking out the Summoners as fast as possible.

The Story Quest in Chapter 21 of Fire Emblem Engage

Before starting Chapter 21's Story, players will get a pop-up that tells them there will be several battles in a row. Make sure to pack up all the healing items, staffs, and anything else players might need for two big battles in a row. The first fight has players battling with 12 units plus Mauvier of the Four Hounds of the Fell Dragon, who joins the party at the beginning of turn 1.

Mauvier is a promoted unit with a Flame Lance, a Silver Great Lance, and a healing Physic staff. His stats are fairly good, solid numbers, so he will be a great cavalry unit for players to add to their team.

In terms of enemies, players of this Switch-exclusive 2023 release will have several enemies to take care of, but the main targets will be Zephia, Griss, and Veyle.

  • There are three Dragon-like Wyrm units; like the previous Wyrms, these guys have massive range with their fireballs that ignore resistance and defense. They move slowly, and they are huge, tank-like critters with a lot more bite than bark.
  • Most of these enemy units have silver weapons and are advanced units. There is a group of Corrupted that are directly north of the player's starting position with a Tomahawk user and several with Thorons.
  • Griss - He no longer has an Emblem, but he is still a powerful magical unit in Fire Emblem Engage. He has two health bars and low defense; this unit also drops a Spirit Drop when he dies.
  • Zephia - She is also without Emblem powers. She is a flying unit with low defense as well. She drops an S-Rank sword and has a Thoron. This enemy also has one Revival Stone.
  • Veyle is the only enemy left with a Corrupted Emblem; she holds Corrupted Marth. She is flanked by healing units and a general with a Tomahawk and a Corrupted holding a Carnwenhan that it will drop; this is an S-Class daggard with smash. All these units are on a giant protection plate that buffs their Avoidance and other stats, but they will engage and come forward to attack anything in range of them.
  • Now onto Veyle herself. She is a sword and magic wielder, carrying Marth's Falchion, a Thoron, and an Obscurite. She is also holding a knife that is exclusive to her. She has Fell Protection which protects the units around her, and another innate power that refills her Engage meter faster. Veyle is berserk the entire fight, so she does not gain any additional powers after losing her first Revival Gem. She has anchor and all Math's powers, like Perceptive +, Unyielding ++, and Lodestar Rush.

As the fight begins, more Corrupted units will spawn at the end of every single turn. This includes additional Wyrms along with other advanced Corrupted units. Once Veyle engages in combat, a whole slew of Corrupted units will spawn from every edge of the map, so be prepared to take her out quickly once players are within her sphere of influence.

Players will not get to return to the Somniel between Fire Emblem Engage's Chapters 21 and 22, meaning they will continue on the next fight without being able to restock or change units.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
