The 20th chapter of Fire Emblem Engage is all about catching up with the Emblems that were corrupted in the previous chapters. Players will have two new Paralogues and a story chapter to get through, but each step will take players a little closer to the end of the game.

First, there is Micaiah's Paralogue and Roy's Paralogue, designed to get them to unlock their highest possible Bond Ranking. And the story will bring players a little closer to the Fell Dragon's seat of power in this Final Fantasy Tactics-like JRPG from Nintendo and Intelligent Systems.

Updates to the Somniel in Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem Engage

Fire emblem engage (1)

The only thing new in Somniel is a new difficulty of Fire Emblem Engage's strength training. Players will want to chat with their units, make some food at the cafe, and remember to clean all the Emblem Rings in the Ring Chamber. The most important parts of this chapter are the two Paralogues.

The First Paralogue in Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem Engage: The Dawn Maiden

Players need to both defeat Micaiah and defend enemies against touching the square that Fire Emblem Engage's Divine Dragon Alear starts on. There are mostly standard units with silver and B-rank weapons. The units will B-line toward the door where Alear is, attacking everything in their path, so players must play defense on this map.

There are several ballistas and one flame cannon for players to use to defend their position. Each one has 10 shots in it. To use the ballistas, the unit has to have a bow, and it must be able to be equipped by that unit. There also has to be an enemy unit in range to fire it. The fire cannon, however, can be fired by anyone and will light the ground ablaze, dealing damage to anyone in the flames.

Micaiah has Great Sacrifice, and she is immune to silence. Her defense is very low, but she is a light-based Magical Unit with powerful Tomes. She holds the light Tome Shine, Nosferatu, and Thani.

  • Shine damages enemies and lights up dark spaces.
  • Nosferatu damages enemies and heals the bearer for 50% of that damage.
  • Thani is a high-powered Tome that is very good against Armored units and Cavalry.

This Emblem Ring fight can be ended very quickly by B-lining for Micaiah and attacking her head-on. Make sure the unit players send out to get her has high resistance and high defense.

The Second Paralogue in Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem Engage: The Young Lion

Players will now take on their own Emblem Roy to up his max Bond. Alear and company will spawn in the upper left-hand corner and Roy in the lower right-hand corner, meaning players will have a long trek ahead of them. Here are some things to note:

  • Roy is the only sword user starting on the battlefield.
  • Most units are pretty standard at this point.
  • There is a Dragon unit; like previous Wyrms, this unit deals damage at range that ignores defense and resistances, has a lot of health, and moves very slowly. Attack with extreme caution. Thankfully, there is only one this time around.
  • One Magical unit by Roy has Meteor. She has no other attacks, so getting up close prevents her from attacking.

  • As for the returning Fire Emblem hero Roy, he has one revival stone. This Emblem will hit pretty hard, so players will want to make sure whatever unit approaches him has high defense. He has three weapons: Binding Blade, which is a physical attack sword that gives him additional def/res and 1-2 range; another that reverses the weapon triangle; and the blade with the bonus against Dragons called Wyrmslayer. The worst part of Roy is Hold Out +++; it states, "if a unit has 2 or more HP, they will always survive combat with at least 1 HP." This means players will have to get him down to 1HP before they can kill him each time. He also has Advance, which basically gives him an additional move if enemies are nearby.
  • After the first turn, Alear will note that they hear wings in the background and that Wyvrens are coming in to help Roy. After turn 2, new Wyvren knights spawn in opposite corners of the map, from the southwest and the northeast. At the end of turn 3, several more will show up all around the corner of the map, closing in on Alear and the party.
  • Once Roy is engaged, three new Wyvrens come in from the southwest. Destroy him quickly to end the fight.

The Story Quest in Chapter 20 of Fire Emblem Engage

Players are taking on Four Hounds member Griss once again, and he will bring an army with him. This slippery foe will trap players into following him all over the map, and he will have some powerful magic to keep players on their toes. Much of the map is covered in darkness tiles with lightable torches and units hiding in the dark. Several enemies have crit weapons on them.

One thing to note: in the middle of the room is a soldier with a three-use Entrap. This lets them drag one of the player's units 1-6 spaces to an adjacent space, and this staff is dropable. Don't let him use all three of the charges; if he does, there won't be any uses left on the staff for players to keep.

Griss has Emblem Celica and two Corrupted purple Revival Stones. He has a solid defense and high resistance, as well as high magic. He has Celica's Resonance +, which means he loses 1 HP to deal three more damage to players. He has:

  • Ragnorak Tome - An attack Tome in Fire Emblem Engage with 1-2 range.
  • Seraphim Tome - Since this Tome is weaker than Ragnorak Tome and its bonus is against corrupted, Griss won't use this one.
  • A Recover staff.
  • Excalibur - This is the A-rank Wind Tome, and he will drop this at the end of the fight.
  • Once berserk, he has Unholy Stance: when a non-Corrupted does damage to him, he does 50% back if he survives the hit. He also gains Echo, which means he can attack twice at 60% damage.

When the battle begins, Griss teleports into the hidden dark space on the map, so he can do Ragnorak Warp when players find him in the dark. He does it twice, then stops, heading back to his protection tile. Other things hiding in the dark are:

  • In the middle right of the map, there is a high-level dagger-wielding Corrupted that drops the Peshkatz, a high-crit dagger with a range of 1. This unit will have a yellow exclamation mark over its head.
  • In the left treasure room, there is a high-powered, hard-hitting Corrupted with a Silver Great Axe.

At the end of turn 3, thieves will spawn and start after the treasure chests, so players must hurry to get to them first. There are four Treasure chests total, two on the left and two on the right of Griss' starting place. There are some very powerful, hard-hitting enemies in the treasure chest areas, so use caution when approaching.

  • Treasure Chest 1: Silver Blade
  • Treasure Chest 2: Rescue Staff
  • Treasure Chest 3: Brave Bow, a Brave weapon that allows those that initiate combat to attack twice.
  • Treasure Chest 4: Secret Book, gives one unit a permanent Dex +2 in this Switch-exclusive game of 2023.

Fire Emblem Engage is available now for Nintendo Switch.
