Highlights

  • Ultima's abilities are some of the best, with an AP price tag to match it.
  • Most of Ultima's abilities have a short cooldown with high damage.
  • Ascension is one of the better Eikon Feats that all players should use.

Throughout Final Fantasy 16, Clive will get access to more and more Eikons, each coming with their own Eikonic abilities, Feats, and overall specialties in combat. In The Rising Tide, Leviathan is clearly going to be added to Clive's arsenal, but that doesn't mean it's the only new Eikon available in the DLC.

After completing the main story for The Rising Tide, players will get access to Ultima as the final Eikon. Ultima's powers are some of the best in the game, able to decimate any and all enemies. While these abilities do take a lot of AP to unlock, they are well worth the investment. With five more Eikonic Abilities to choose from, it's important for players to know which are best before trying to make spots for them in their build.

The Adder Stone is a new item in FF16 The Rising Tide that lets players find Aquamarine, a rare crafting material needed to make Serpent Rings.

5 Dominion

Summon Large Pillars From The Ground To Skewer Enemies

Clive Using Dominion In Battle

Dominion is in no way a bad ability, as it deals a great amount of damage to a group of spread-out enemies. That being said, it can be very situational, as the rings of effect from this ability do have gaps between them, while also not being directly around Clive. Enemies who are a bit more mobile have a high chance of walking out of the potential area of effect, rendering this ability useless.

When an enemy does get caught in a circle, they will receive a good amount of damage and a lot of stagger. This ability definitely has its uses and can be great against very large groups where hitting an enemy is more likely, and is best paired with an additional crowd control ability to make sure this ability lands. The height of the spikes is also worth mentioning, as any flying enemy caught within a circle will for sure also be skewered alongside anything that was on the ground.

4 Proselytize

Unleash A Torrent Of Aether Straight Ahead

Clive Using Proselytize In Battle

Proselytize is one of the first abilities Clive gets and gets to test out during the initial fight. In terms of stars for damage and stagger in the Eikon menu, this ability is the same as Dominion. What makes this ability better is that it's much easier to aim and hit multiple enemies with. This ability also has a large arc to the beam of energy, making it also hit enemies in the air in the direction the ability is used.

This ability would excel with Cross Swell from Leviathan as that ability will perfectly pull enemies into an area that Proselytize will affect. The distance of this attack is also fairly useful in giving Clive a bit more of a ranged attack in fights where a bit of breathing room is needed. This ability can also be a great knock-up for smaller enemies, leaving them helpless in the air for a follow-up attack to continue your combo.

3 Ascension

Strengthen Clive's Attacks & Make Him Fly

Clive Using His Basic Attack While Ascension Is Active

Ascension is Ultima's Eikonic Feat and transforms Clive into something closer to an angel than a man. This form has no limits, making Clive sprout wings and fly just above the ground. His basic attacks are greatly upgraded in terms of reach and damage, while the Triangle/Y button can fire a quick barrage of balls of energy.

What makes this Eikonic Feat so powerful is that the Triangle/Y attack can be sprinkled on top of other combat and Eikonic abilities. While it would need quick fingers, the barrages of energy don't require an actual cast animation, and can be used constantly along with other Eikon abilities or combos of basic attacks. While you are limited to only the two equipped Eikon abilities for this Feat, Ascension can help further push an already great build just a bit further.

2 Ultimate Demise

A Massive Explosion That Will Leave None Standing

Clive Casting Ultimate Demise

Ultimate Demise is Ultima's ultimate ability, and as one may guess, it's a massive explosion of aether. This ability has a very large area of effect, and will even pull in smaller enemies to make sure they take the full amount of damage while also leaving them at death's door should they somehow survive this ability.

Final Fantasy 16 - The Rising Tide: Bird of Passage Walkthrough

Completing the Bird of Passage side quest will allow Final Fantasy 16 players to use a Chocobo in The Rising Tide DLC.

This skill does have a bit of a longer cooldown, like all ultimate abilities, but the wait can easily be filled with other Ultima abilities. This ability does have a bit of a cast time, however, where Clive is left open to being attacked and interrupted. This ability has an equal damage and stagger rate, also making it a great setup against bosses who just need a bit more of a push to be fully staggered.

1 Voice Of God

Call Down A Controllable Beam Of Energy

Clive Using Voice Of God

Voice of God turns Clive into a beam of pure energy, protecting him from being attacked while also being able to move around to hit different enemies. Smaller enemies hit by this beam will get stuck within, and carried along should Clive move while in this form. The cast time for this ability is fairly quick, and the time of Clive being protected makes it well worth the use.

This ability also has an incredibly quick cooldown and can be used multiple times, even in a fight against weaker enemies. This ability focuses more on raw damage than trying to stagger enemies. While some more stagger would be nice, most enemies caught in this beam won't survive, and if they do, another one can be on the way after a short delay.
