Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Naoki Hamaguchi went on record to explain how the upcoming remake's rendition of the Gold Saucer will differ from the original game. This bit of insight into the JRPG arrived alongside a confirmation that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will feature nearly 100 hours of content.

While the 1997 game wasn't lacking in memorable locations, the Gold Saucer still managed to stand out from the rest of its environments, not least because of its unique premise combining the ruins of Old Corel with a high-end amusement park. The tourist attraction's plethora of enthralling activities and quirky characters provided a nice change of pace from the main quest in a charming fashion that many fans still fondly remember to this day. As a result, the fandom has long been asking for info on how Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will handle the Gold Saucer a quarter of a century later.

Square Enix finally teased the remake's take on the Gold Saucer in the latest Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth trailer debuted during the September 14 State of Play livestream. Following up on that promo, Hamaguchi sat down with Sony to talk some more details about how the upcoming game will handle this iconic location. His newly published interview hence confirms that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will offer an even greater variety of mini-games than the 1997 title did, with the vast majority of those activities being concentrated in the Gold Saucer.

As was the case in the original game, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth players will first reach the Gold Saucer some halfway through the main story, and have the ability to return to it afterward. However, in a bid to encourage those revisits, the remake will gradually introduce more content to the amusement park, Hamaguchi revealed. Elaborating on that point, the project director explained that new mini-games and higher difficulty levels for existing activities will both be added to the Gold Saucer as the main quest progresses.

Hamaguchi also seemingly confirmed that Square Enix is aware of the fandom's expectations that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Gold Saucer needs to be big, having revealed that the developer "fully remade and upgraded" all parts of the iconic amusement park that are featured throughout the main story. "You can expect great things from it," the director concluded.

The State of Play trailer also offered a glimpse at the remake's take on Costa del Sol with a scene wherein Cloud is riding a segway across the coastal resort town. But the main takeaway from the three-minute video was the long-awaited reveal of the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's release date, February 29.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is coming to PS5 on February 29, 2024.
