Fans of RPGs look at Final Fantasy not just for its groundbreaking immersive experiences, but also for its unique take on RPG gameplay. After all, most Final Fantasy games offer vast endgame options to continuously challenge players. Gamers familiar with this concept would allude to the Ultima Weapon, perhaps the most powerful weapon in any Final Fantasy game. However, some entries in the franchise also offer rare items that completionists would want to obtain across their playthrough.
10 Final Fantasy: Teleport Stone
Despite how the franchise popularized the random encounter system, not everyone wants to fight enemies every few seconds. In the original Final Fantasy game, an item called the Teleport Stone can help players in a jiffy. Essentially, the item teleports the party outside of a dungeon - handy for quick exits.
Unfortunately, it's extremely difficult to procure such an item. Players can only get the Teleport Stone as a drop from Purple Worms - powerful enemies inside the Chaos Shrine. However, should players get the Teleport Stone, it easily becomes a handy way to exit dungeons especially when players want to do some quick farming. The Teleport Stone is available in the iOS, 20th Anniversary, and Dawn of Souls versions of the game.
9 Final Fantasy 4: Dark Matter
The universe's most mysterious substance makes various appearances in Final Fantasy, and has a unique use in Final Fantasy 4. Unfortunately, players do need to undergo an arduous process to acquire it - specifically, to use Edge's Steal Command to steal it from Zeromus in the game's final battle.
Upon acquisition, players will soon learn that the Dark Matter only serves its function after completing the game. When they defeat Zeromus, players might want to land the Lunar Whale on the Red Moon. If they walk up to the Red Moon, the game will ask them to use Dark Matter - afterward, the game will force players to fight Proto-Babil, arguably the most powerful boss in the game. Players can only use the Dark Matter item outside the 2D versions.
8 Final Fantasy 5: Tinklebell
Rare items - especially weapons - make an appearance in Final Fantasy 5. However, the distinction of being one of the most difficult weapons to find would fall with Tinklebell, a recurring Bell Weapon in the series. As with its other appearances, the Tinklebell is the strongest Bell Weapon in the entirety of FF5. As a weapon, the Tinklebell gives +52 Attack and can deal full damage if attacking from the back row.
Players can only obtain Tinklebell from Twintania if it's not charging up its Gigaflare. This makes Tinklebell ridiculously difficult to obtain, as players only fight Twintania once in the game. However, players can circumvent this caveat by fighting Twintania repetitively in Cloister of the Dead.
7 Final Fantasy 6: Tintinnabulum
Fetch quests remain a staple - and most often an annoyance - in RPGs. However, some fetch quests do hide remarkably useful items at the end of their arduous journeys. Such is the case of Final Fantasy 6, where one of the Tintinnabulum can only be obtained by embarking on a ridiculously long fetch quest. As an item, the Tintinnabulum recovers HP for its wearer whenever they take a step. The healing received equates to the wearer's Stamina/4.
In this particular acquisition method, players first need to get 10,000 gil and talk to the bedridden soldier in Mobliz. The soldier gives them a request that they need to deliver to the messenger service, and then getting another letter after resting. This is a process the player must repeat until the soldier finally gives them the item.
6 Final Fantasy 6: Lightbringer
One would think that the strongest items in games are only attainable after defeating a boss or embarking on a noble quest. However, in Final Fantasy 6, its strongest weapon is the prize of a bet.
In FF6, Lightbringer not only randomly casts Holy but a swath of other skills and benefits as well. However, players can only get Lightbringer by betting Ragnarok, another powerful sword, in the Dragon's Neck Coliseum. To obtain Ragnarok, players need to tell Narshe in the World of Ruin that they want to transform the Ragnarok magicite into a weapon.
5 Final Fantasy 7: Knights Of The Round
In the Final Fantasy 7 universe, people can cast magic via Materia or crystallized mako. Thanks to its many properties, characters can use Materia to cast spells, improve items, or even call upon the aid of various Summons. As players would notice, some of the best Materia in the game lie hidden in the Materia Caves - accessible only after completing the rather expensive and lengthy Chocobo breeding quest.
However, if players want the strongest summon in the game, they might want to embark on such a journey. If players obtain a gold Chocobo, they can head to the northeast of the world map to go to Round Island. In here they can find Knights of the Round, the best summon in the game.
4 Final Fantasy 8: Pet Nametag
Players of Final Fantasy 8 will undoubtedly fall in love with Sant' Angelo di Roma, or SeeD member Rinoa's pet dog. According to lore, Angelo loves peanut butter, yogurt, apples, sushi, and white chocolate. Interestingly, despite her boyish name, Angelo is actually female. And with the Pet Nametag, players can rename Angelo into a name that tells her she's the goodest girl.
To obtain this rename card, players can find one of them in Prison Floor 2 of the D-District. Moreover, they can talk to the man outside the Timber Maniacs in Timber to get the item. However, the Timber strategy only works if they talk to the man outside the building when they return to Timber after leaving it for the first time.
3 Final Fantasy 9: Southern Tropical Outfits
Who would've thought that Final Fantasy 9's worst equipment would be one of the hardest items to procure in the game? Called the Southern Tropical Outfits, these items reduce the wearer's physical and magic Defense and Evade to zero - effectively making them extremely vulnerable to attack.
To obtain these items, players need to get a deep blue or golden Choco and head to the foaming water between the Outer Continent and the Mist Continent. When they use a Dead Pepper to examine the foaming water, they obtain all but one piece of the equipment for all characters. To get the last Aloha T-shirt, players need to give the Moogle Moguta a Kupo Nut in Gizamaluke's Grotto.
2 Final Fantasy 12: Great Trango, Seitengrat
In Final Fantasy 12's Zodiac versions, its strongest weapons come in the form of the sword Great Trango and bow Seitengrat. At least, players "know" they're a sword and a bow, respectively, as they're practically invisible to players. These items don't possess any models, but they're ridiculously hard to obtain throughout Ivalice.
To get the Great Trango, players need to get to Subterra (Abyssal-South) and gamble with a 2-percent spawn chance in one of its treasures. They can also attempt to steal the Great Trango from Zodiark with a 3-percent probability.
Meanwhile, players can get the Seitengrat in the Skyferry from an invisible chest that only appears 1-percent at a time. Moreover, this chest has a 20-percent chance of having an item, and 5-percent to obtain the Seitengrat once they have the Diamond Armlet equipped.
1 Final Fantasy 13: Elixir
Despite being a common item in the franchise, the Elixir is incredibly rare in the Final Fantasy 13 franchise. In the game, the Elixir restores all the HP and TP of all party members However, getting the item is ridiculously difficult to do.
For instance, players can find only one Elixir in the entire game. This is located in an unrevesitable area in Orphan's Cradle, inside a treasure sphere guarded by an Immortal. If they want more, they need to dismantle max-level versions of Doctor's Codes - and even then, only three of those exist in the entire game.
