Final Fantasy 9 is probably one of the most beloved games in the series. It’s also the most critically-acclaimed game in the Final Fantasy franchise, as it has a Metacritic score of 94. It has been a while since new Final Fantasy games have reached that high a score, with Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker coming the closest in recent memory with its rating of 92.

Square Enix has re-released several Final Fantasy games on modern platforms in the past few years. This list includes simple ports, HD remasters, and full remakes like Final Fantasy 7. Some fans have asked Square Enix to remake other Final Fantasy games, particularly the classic titles that are not in full 3D, but the publisher has not released any new information regarding the same. The Nvidia leak from last year mentioned that a Final Fantasy 9 remake is in development, and in light of recent events, it looks like that leak will end up being true.

The Nvidia leak contained names of some unannounced Square Enix games, including a remaster of Chrono Cross and Kingdom Hearts 4. Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition released just a few days ago, and yesterday, Square Enix revealed Kingdom Hearts 4 along with a gameplay trailer. It primarily focused on teasing the plot while also showing Sora fighting a massive Heartless in Quadratum. The exciting trailer featured a small gameplay sequence that showed off some of Sora’s moves, including a grappling hook and a drill-like attack.

Since some of these leaks are now official, it makes sense to think that the other major announcements, such as the above-mentioned Final Fantasy 9 remake, will also come true. Assuming this game is in development, it’ll be interesting to see how Square Enix approaches the remake. After all, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has multiple episodes, and fans will have to wait for years before they can play all the parts. Square Enix may decide to break Final Fantasy 9 into separate episodes, but it can also make a budget title with new assets, which will technically still be classified as a remake.

Other announcements from the Nvidia leak, such as God of War on PC, have also come true, which further adds to its credibility. Assuming that some of the more plausible leaks from this database are correct, fans can expect to see more Sony games, such as Demon’s Souls and Returnal, to launch on PC in the future.
