After years of seeming to be stuck in development limbo, news about the first part of Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been coming in waves since the beginning of E3. With a set release date, and an extensive gameplay reveal during the company's press conference, more news about the remake's episodic release approach has been outlined.

Highlights from an interview with Final Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase offer up many details about how the future chapters for the game will be developed. Given the first chapter of the remake, which centers around the giant metropolis of Midgar, establishes many of the combat and traversal mechanics that will be used across parts, Kitase has emphasized it shouldn't take Square Enix as long to develop the subsequent episodes. Given the remake, as a whole, is meant to "dive deeper into the world and characters of Final Fantasy 7," most of the development from now on will likely be centered around making sure landmark areas and future characters are as authentic as possible.

Square Enix's extensive look into Final Fantasy 7 Remake, during its E3 press conference, has put faith in many that there's been significant progress in the game's development. The development team gave an on-stage demonstration of how combat works during the segment, which introduced a new tactical mode as well as the ability to quickly swap between characters while in the middle of a battle. The gameplay also showed off the game's first boss fight, presenting a new level of verticality to combat, an ever-changing battlefield, and how bosses maneuver and change their strategies at certain stages.

The gameplay reveal of both Tifa and Aerith was also shown for the game's first chapter, which will have enough content that it needs a second blu-ray disc for those looking to buy physical copies. Still, Square Enix's claims for a shorter development cycle for latter episodes relies on making sure part one hits its intended March release date. There's still no information yet on how many parts will make up the entirety of Final Fantasy VII Remake, or just how far future episodes will progress the original's main story arc as they're being developed.

Final Fantasy VII Remake releases on March 3rd, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
