  • Remake Part 3 could reimagine these tough fights, possibly making them compulsory encounters for players to advance the story.

Even before it has a proper title and release window, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 already carries a lofty set of expectations. Square Enix's conclusion to the epic Final Fantasy 7 saga is expected to provide closure to the series' complex narrative, tying up any loose ends and giving fans a satisfying conclusion. Both Remake and its sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, have proved to be tough, challenging experiences that demand a lot from the player in mastering the mechanics. For Remake Part 3, players can expect an even tougher challenge, thanks to the likely inclusion of Final Fantasy 7's two most notorious enemies: Emerald and Ruby Weapon.

The Weapons play a massive role in Final Fantasy 7's lore. These huge, mechanical beings lie dormant, sleeping beneath the earth's surface, and only awaken when the planet is in danger. The threat of Sephiroth with his plans to destroy the planet and summon Meteor is enough to spring the Weapons into action. They provide a formidable obstacle for anyone to overcome, including Cloud and his party. The original game featured five of these Weapons: Ruby, Emerald, Ultimate, Sapphire, and Diamond, but it is unknown if they will all feature in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3.

The Gold Saucer was one of the major highlights in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Part 3 could go various routes in making it special the second time.

Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 Will Have a Couple of Aces Up its Sleeve

The Ruby and Emerald Weapon fights in the original Final Fantasy 7 are widely regarded as among the most difficult fights in any JRPG. Both are entirely optional, and it's likely that many didn't bother to put in the huge amount of hours it requires to get their party in a position where it can even survive against the huge weapons, let alone beat them. In an era before Trophies and Achievements existed, many would've only had verbal bragging rights to show for overcoming such monumental fights.

In the original game, both of these Weapons can be encountered in different parts of the world map. Ruby is found in the desert, near one of Final Fantasy 7's most memorable locations, the Gold Saucer, and players must crash into its protruding claw sticking out of the sand to initiate the fight. Emerald is found underwater, while Cloud is piloting a submarine, and a fight can be triggered by crashing into the beast with the sub itself. They can both be beaten with similar strategies, with the legendary Knights of the Round Summon something of a must, but both are long, drawn-out fights that require huge levels of concentration.

Remake Part 3 Could Reimagine the Weapon Fights

With the look and feel of this new trilogy being so different to the original, it's not easy to try and imagine how those fights could look in Remake Part 3. An underwater battle against a huge adversary doesn't really mesh well with the new battle system implemented in FF7 Remake, but the clues probably lie in Chadley's Combat Simulator. This in-game VR system allows Cloud to battle against a wide range of enemies, from tiny to enormous, so at least in terms of scale, the Weapon fights should fit into the game easily enough.

It remains to be seen if they will still be optional, or if these legendary monsters will be compulsory encounters in order to advance the story. With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth deviating off the linear path that Remake laid out, it seems fairly likely that Remake Part 3 will continue to be non-linear, allowing players to go off the beaten path and explore the world. Choosing to do so in Remake Part 3 will probably see the player coming face to face with two unforgettable creatures, and Square Enix has work to do in order to ensure the encounters live up to their older counterparts.
