Final Fantasy 7 Remake was advertised to be a visually enhanced retelling of Final Fantasy 7, but the developers chose to incorporate some unusual changes regarding the game's narrative. Though the majority of the events depicted in the remake were accurate homages to the original title, certain changes were administered that could completely change how the story will unfold in Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Part 2.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura has grown fond of complex storylines in recent years, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake is no exception. Now that fans know that this retelling has the power to completely change the story, many are hoping for new story elements to be added.

7 Aerith Should Live

Aerith in Final Fantasy VII

One of the most shocking turns of events ever seen in gaming history was Aerith's death in Final Fantasy 7. The player is introduced to Aerith at the beginning of the game, so when she becomes a party member, many assumed that she would be a playable character for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Being a descendant of the Ancients, Aerith can utilize the Holy materia, one of the only means of stopping Sephiroth from destroying the planet of Gaia by summoning Meteor.

With the Whispers being destroyed during the climax of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, it appears that the plot is no longer confined to its set path. Though brief snippets of Aerith's death were shown during the remake, there is a chance that she will survive to see the story to completion as Red 13 refers to it as "a glimpse of tomorrow if we fail here today." Seeing that Cloud defeated the Whispers during the finale, it can be assumed that Aerith's destiny has been altered, which would permit her to survive in the game's sequel.

6 The Death Of A Different Main Character

Tifa and Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The Whispers have been eradicated, so the possibilities for the future of the game's plot are currently unknown. It has been hinted that Aerith's death could be an avoidable event in the sequel, so it is safe to assume that Aerith will be spared in the sequel. Being a fan favorite, many are relieved at this possibility, but many also forget that it does not guarantee the survival of other main characters.

While attempting to locate and rescue Aerith in the Shinra building, the party enters the Cosmos Theater and is shown a virtual simulation that documents the history of the Ancients. The simulation begins to corrupt during its final moments, showcasing imagery of Midgar engulfed in flame while buildings crumble in the background. The most notable moment, however, is when Sephiroth appears and kills Tifa. This may be a hint toward Tifa's newly found destiny. Perhaps, now that destiny has been dismantled, she is doomed to return to the planet in Aerith's stead.

5 The Return Of Avalanche

In the original game, most of the eco-terrorists known as Avalanche were wiped out when Shinra dropped the plate on Sector 7, but this is not the case in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. After the plate fell, Wedge's unconscious body was found mostly unharmed in a facility beneath his home, while Biggs was seen waking up in the Leaf House Orphanage during the game's ending. Though Jessie's death has yet to be disproved, Biggs and Wedge can now assist in saving the planet.

Though Biggs and Wedge are currently confined behind the encompassing walls of Midgar, there is no reason why they would not be able to contribute to the plot. Having companions readily available to report on Shinra's plans could provide Cloud with limitless options on how to approach the newly cemented events of the story. They could even be made playable to portray the events taking place in Midgar while Cloud and company continue their journey in the outside world.

4 More SOLDIERS Like Roche

The introduction of Roche, a 3rd class SOLDIER with a questionable passion for motorcycles, allows for some minor alterations to be made in the sequel. Roche will likely continue his villainous role in the upcoming title, so the story will more than likely be altered to allow him to blend in seamlessly. The original game featured very few SOLDIERS apart from Cloud, but Roche's inclusion could allow the introduction of new SOLDIERS.

Final Fantasy 7 was chock-full of antagonists, but with its story now undergoing some major changes, it would make sense to invite more characters to play the villain. More SOLDIERS would allow for more context to be given to how they are manufactured, and it may also allow for new protagonists.

3 No More Optional Characters

In the original Final Fantasy 7, the player could experience the entire story without encountering Vincent Valentine or Yuffie Kisaragi, two playable characters that can only be discovered by diverting from the story's set path. If these characters were found, the player could pursue the stories relevant to them, though doing so was entirely optional.

Since the characters of Yuffie and Vincent have become something of icons to the series, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 should make their encounters unmissable. It would allow for a deeper backstory to be showcased while ensuring long-term fans of the series get to experience all necessary plot points required for understanding the overall story.

2 A Deepground Storyline

Deepground is an organization introduced in Final Fantasy 7: Dirge of Cerberus. It is a secret military group, formed by Shinra, full of individuals with supernatural abilities. Vincent Valentine is forced to fight this group after the events of Final Fantasy 7 when they emerge from the facility beneath the Shinra building.

With the characters of Nero and Weiss making an appearance during the final segments of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, it would be fitting for them to reappear in the game's sequel. If the remake's story is being divided among three games, perhaps Deepground should become the main antagonist of the sequel instead of Sephiroth. It would be a shame to overuse Sephiroth in this retelling, so developers should focus their efforts on effectively incorporating different antagonists.

1 A Parallel Universe Where Zack Survives

Zack Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade

The ending of Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core saw Zack making his way home to Midgar to return to Aerith, his girlfriend at the time. Sadly, Shinra deployed its Public Security Division to take him down as he arrived at the outskirts of Midgar. He fought valiantly but was vastly outnumbered by his enemies, resulting in his death. The ending of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, however, revealed that the party's actions resulted in not only the alteration of Aerith's destiny but Zack's as well.

In a parallel universe, Zack survives Shinra's onslaught and continues his journey to the Sector 5 Slums. The ending of Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade further revealed that Zack made it to Aerith's church but, upon entering, found that Aerith was nowhere to be seen. Perhaps this universe required Aerith to die for Zack to live, but nothing regarding this is confirmed. Zack being alive could allow for a brand-new story to be told in the game's sequel. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 should ensure to document Zack's survival and link it with Cloud's.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 is now in development.
